New Intel Motherboard with SSD

Rob Wray from mp3Car takes a closer look at Intel's D945gsejt motherboard and their SSD z-u130 2 GB module .

The unique fact here is that they made room on motherboard to fit this 2gb module into the USB header, so you can essentially have a very fast boot up time if your OS is installed on that chip without taking up barely 2 inches of the board.

Interesting that Intel has a USB embedded flash drive. Years ago, I tested an M-System uDOC (you can search the forums here for more details) that, at the time, was the fastest and smallest storage medium out there. There were a lot of hoops to get it working with Windows XP though (it was meant for XP Embedded). Nowadays though I think SSDs are a much bigger bang for the buck in terms of speed, cost, and integration compared to CF, USB, or other such embedded storage devices.

They are actually EOL from Intel at this point. When they merged production of their memory with Micron they dropped their product line and let Microns take over. The advantage to the Micron modules is that they have higher capacities that are upto 8Gb and 16Gb will launch soon. The part # for the 8Gb module is MTFDCAE008SAF-1B1
The standard work arounds to boot XP from USB need to be used with these modules as well.
