sorry - but 255 characters is the normal across most forums on the internet.
You say others have more info than you, I'd like to know who specifically because I don't think they do.
You should get creative with the way you put things in your signature.
We have a limit for a reason.

I must say, I dont like the limit on the total length with code markup. I understand visible limitations, but when links get long, the signature automatically poops out. A good example is since you updated the forum to use string based lookups for the address instead of numbers.
So instead of "/vbulletin/forum/123.html" it is now "/vbulletin/forum/very-long-title-to-some-thread-that-takes-up-lots-of-space.html". So if you want a link to a post here, you just ate up almost all your character allowances. That sort of thing. I think it is at 500? I know that it has yelled at me plenty of times, and I do agree with a limit for visible text (255 is good), but how about upping the text+VB code?

(although there are ways of finding the shorter link and using that )
I have had to get creative and drop a lot of bits out of mine.
One trick I have noticed is:
Don't put the http:\\ in a link, just start it with www
The http:\\ will be put in when you save it but it doesn't come out of the 255 (unless you edit it again, then you have to remove it again)

Your signautre is just that...a signature. A bit about yourself and your project. It's not a life story. It's not a place to post and explain in detail where you stand on your project or to tell the world that you'll never be happy with it. It's your signature. If you want to tell the world that you still need to do this, that, and the other thing, save it for your work log...and link to it.
However, I have increased the limit with BBCode in signatures.

Whatever you want to call it
Quote my post to see code. You will also need to hit the top right of the box where there is an A / A
