Lose the smart tags

Or whatever they are called in the latest installed plug-in for vBulletin.
Or at least give members the option to turn them off, PLEASE!

I understand you want to link members to the new Wiki from forum posts. It's a logical progression, and overall a good thing, I believe.
However, the implementation is horrible.

I looked at a post from earlier today, and the only work linked as a smart-tag is LAPTOP. And they all link to the same Wiki article about using a laptop as a PC in your ride.
So why do I think it is so bloody ridiculous?

Think ahead a bit, if you will. Think of all the aspects of vehicle computing, including car audio, CPUs, HDDs, laptops, RAM, desktops, power supplies, video cards, USB devices, CD-ROMs, DVD drives, DSPs, amplifiers, speakers, equalizers, fuses, gauges, OBD readers and so on....
There is (or will be) a Wiki entry relating to just about every component of a PC, a car audio system and a vehicle's electrical system. That means that just about every relevant word in a post will result in an annoying pop-up for everything relevant.

That will make the forum pages more difficult to navigate, slower to load and is likely to put off some new members, and possibly some older members.

LOOKING FOR THE FAQ? IT'S HERE.
You never found that link, did you? Why? It's hard to find in the NavBar across the top of the forums, amongst a lot of other crap.

TELL MP3CAR YOU WANT A LINK TO THE FAQ IN A MORE OBVIOUS, NOTICABLE LOCATION HERE.

Good point, DP. I think for new users, this is a good thing. But the rest of us need an option to turn them off.

+1

it was supposed to be off - we were unaware until this morning. Does not make sense to have the tags until there is a wiki with some serious articles in it.

Good idea down the road to no matter what let people turn the tags on and off.
They will be turned off for now.
