Next meet I'll have a different screen setup/layout than before with custom dash pieces. I've smelled so much melting plastic the past few days I think it's burned into my nose and I'll be smelling it forever...

I won't be in town on the 21st, but the 28th would work for me.

Sounds like the 28th it is. Just checked the St. Louis events calendar, and no major events scheduled. So I'll start cruising the park for a good location unless someone else has a better idea.

alright guys...a teaser of the new setup.
http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/work...ml#post1214874
used all plastic welding techniques on this one to weld the pieces together. by far the best method IMO.
Just used the Bondo filler to fill in the small cracks and divets left over.

New setup 99% complete. Just need to finish some touch up work and that's it. I updated that worklog thread with the daytime shots with everything mounted and running. I like this MUCH better than before. The screen is farther away and a little harder to reach, but the visibility is vastly improved and makes the GPS not so awkward to use.

It came out real nice.
How did you end up mounting the touch screen controller? It looks like it's just sitting behind the monitor.

it basically is lol
I tried a few different approaches actually. The first being fixed in place right behind the monitor with some plastic brackets I made and welded in place. Thanks to lilliput and their retarted cable setup it was too wide to fit in the space behind the screen. So what I ended up doing (and fubaring things in the process) was hacking up the back of the original case, screwing the board into that, and laying that back in the 'cubby hole' behind the screen. So the board itself is lying flat wedged in behind there, while the screen is verticle mounted to the dash piece. Not really what I wanted...but it was about 2am and I just wanted it to be done.
Now for the fubar part
When re-arranging things about a dozen times, eventually the little clip that holds the lcd controller ribbon in place broke off. Talk about an oh ***** moment at about 1:30am... So I put the clip back in place and clamped it down (even though it wouldn't stay on it's own), and put some tape over it. I don't have a hotglue gun, but if I did I would have used that.
I may take the screen out one more time and add back in that extra sheet of 3M BEFII 90/50...haven't decided yet. might drive it for a while to see.

That's what happened to the ribbon cable on my Nulooq Navigator. I hot glued the hell out of it.

I'm going to have to do that to this...the tape ain't holding (I figured it wouldn't...but I was hoping for the best )
I think while I have the screen out I'll add back in that other sheet of Vikuiti BEFII.

Remote Connections
Are any of you remotely connecting to your car using your phone/pda? If so what are you using?

That's next on my list as well.
Unfortunately...looks like I'll be saving for a new screen now too I had it out hot-glueing that damn cable in place and the kids were horsin' around in the garage and long story short, the upper right corner got cracked. 90% of the screen is readable, just a spot that's a little larger than a quarter in the upper right is all black now.
Just gives me an excuse to save up for a decent LED backlight or maybe even transflective

Have a Windows Mobile phone (MotoQ) and I use PDAnet to tether the phone. I have unlimited data on the phone, but no Phone as Modem (PAM) package, so PDAnet uses the phones data connection, instead of opening a data connection through the phone. Works like a champ for what little I use it.

That right there is why I tried a windows mobile phone in the first place. It was no where near reliable enough for my email and notifications with work so I dumped it and went back to a blackberry 8310. I've got some links on how to use BlueTooth DUN to connect but haven't messed with it a whole lot yet.
