I have my system down to 35 seconds, yes 12 would be nicer but my bios takes 14, so 35 isnt bad.
Chicago this weekend? I wonder if I can convince my wife to go for a drive. Not likely but I can dream.
35's still good took me a long time to get to 12. Right now I'm working on an automated setup that includes all the tweaks I've made to get 12 seconds plus an auto-install of Winamp, Road Runner, Flash, directx, ffdshow codec, and registry tweaks. I can even have it go as far as installing EWF + HORM support automatically during setup. Right now I've just about got it done with Server2003 SP2. Will remove the Server specific tweaks and can then migrate the same setup files to XP. I'll have it at the next meet (as long as I can make it...June's looking tight for scheduling) for both XP and Server2003 flavors.

I've been doing my reading, and I'm going to play with HORM without EWF over the weekend. You still have to install EWF for HORM support but you can turn EWF off easily enough.

yep... EWF is sort of a p.i.t.a. sometimes, but overall I like it enabled better than disabled. Keeps my wife from fubaring things

I understand, ever time my wife gets in my truck I have computer issues. I think she has a anti-technology field or something. It seems like she has problems with anything computerized.
Do you have problems with iLists when you use HORM? I've had issues with them when I was using regular hibernation, which supposedly has to do with DirectX.

I haven't had any issues with ilists and HORM that I know of. What issues are you having with it? The only issue I have with HORM is the fact that Winamp doesn't really have a randomize feature so your playlist always restarts from the same point. I was going to try to find a way around that using a small USB thumb drive but haven't had the chance.
On a side note...I've been messing with an unattended carpc install and using Server2k3 SP2, I have it to the point where it will setup EWF for you, setup HORM, updated directx, flash9, 7zip, winamp 535, activewinamp, ffdshow codec, road runner, carwings and dfx3 skins, and bootvis (for optimising bootup time). Post install boot time with no further tweaks is 21 seconds in vmware. Will try and modify TinyXP this afternoon and hopefully get better results as the Server 2003 SP2 I used was a full copy (from work ) and therefore the only tweaks were some simple registry tweaks.

There's a know issue with regular hibernation and iLists not working when you come back from hibernation. In my case any list that's an iList comes up blank until I reload the skin.

I'll have to give horm a shot then soon.
I've been playing with Micro2003 a bit this week. I'm having issues finding drivers that work with my hardware that don't get ****y about the drivers being XP only.

Can you guys explain HORM and EWF, still a newbie here!!!
The truck is still coming together. I've gotten several of my need-to-dos done, so I am getting closer and closer to driving her.
On other news, this is my traveling weekend for the month, so no garage time for me until Sunday evening...
I did have a pleasant surprise this afternoon when I arrived home... got my MOBO CPU RAM and a CF card to play with. I'm hoping to sit down and make a build of XP Pro for the card sometime soon and see how she runs. Still have to aquire my monitor (gotta order that this weekend) and a media HD drive, Best Buy is always close (that way wife doesnt know what I spent)

ewf = Enhanced Write Filter. What this basically does is write-protects your filesystem and uses a ram "overlay" to which changes are made. So anything that is normally written to the disk (ie, temp files and crap like that) are written to the RAM overlay. All changes to the system are then lost when the system shuts down. You can enable and disable EWF as you please to make changes to the system as well. Disabling can be done live. Enabling requires a reboot.
HORM = Hibernate Once Resume Many. Basically what is says. You have to install EWF to have HORM support (at least to my knowledge)..but you don't have to have EWF enabled for HORM to work. Basically what you do can do with HORM is load your system up, set things the way you want (example, I have RR loaded, as well as iGuidance, Winamp, Bluetooth software is connected to the device, etc) and then hibernate. All your data in RAM will be written to the hibernation file, however with HORM, even if you do a standard shutdown the system will resume from hibernation using the HORM setup.
btw - what CF card did you get? I've been looking on Ebay and have seen some nice 266x ones in the $50-75 range for a 4-8gb version.
btw # 2 - how does a 9 second boot sound? Just got it in a vmware build of XP

Heres my opinion on the monitors. I would probably go with the Xenarc monitor myself. Picture and brightness wise your not going to notice any differences though. A couple years ago some people had some issues with recieving bad units, wouldnt power up, TS not functioning, ect ect. That was also with the 7" monitors though, which probably get produced at a 4:1 ratio compared to the 10". The Liliput does have a bright side as it is only a 4:3 screen as opposed to the 16:9 of the Xenarc.
I see your also lookin at the 8" monitors, I would say the same for them as well, also the Xenarc monitors offer auto on, as where it is hit or miss with the Liliputs but thats not a big deal imo, but I would splurge the extra $10 an deffinitly go with the Xenarc.
Also like they all said sink the monitor in. This is the biggest regret I have. I swore when I did my second monitor I would mount it verticaly and sink it in, got the second monitor held it up, saw it was brighter and put it in like the first one.

Yup, I am going with the Xenarc. Will order it this evening after I get down home. As far as mounting goes, I plan on mounting it into the bezel some. We'll get there once I get the truck driving.
I need to dig through my boxes and see if I have a good PS somewhere so that I can benchbuild this system soon. Well, I am taking off on the road.

If I can make the next meet, I'll have a little present for everyone. I just finished a fully unattended XP install (based off of TinyXP rev06 + a LOT of registry tweaks found + some basic software for the carpc) that after installation is complete...Boot time is about 8 seconds. After running Microsoft Bootvis a couple times and then optimizing the system, boot time is 7.06 seconds. I nearly shat myself... because that's a full boot...that's not resuming from hibernation
EWF + Horm support is built in as well - so those of you wanting to dive into that it's as easy as double clicking the icon to enable it
For those that would prefer to use their own version of XP, you can use the lastsession.ini that's in the $OEM$ folder to Nlite your own XP, and then just copy the $OEM$ folder into the .iso and install.
So either way after the next meet anyone having long boot times should be cured

Assuming that it actually plays nice with my mac, which TinyXP doesn't play nice with for some reason. MicroXP works, Micro2003 works (can't get my M-Audio card to work with it though, stupid drivers), TinyXP no dice, 50-in-1 UltraDVD no dice.
I'm going to try MicroXP again when I have some time. I think I figured out how to overcome the issues I ran into last time with it.
