Well.... I got another car yesterday.... Let the jokes begin! I bought a 85' Pontiac Fiero.
John.... Before you say a word... You may want to check this article out first This goes for anyone else for that matter that thinks the Fiero is an unsafe car. Put it this way, the Fiero and the Volvo DL tied for first place for the safest small car.
I have always wanted to try my hand at restoring a car, and for some strange reason I have always been drawn to this car. I picked it up dirt cheap, and have a couple grand set aside to start fixing it up.
Mechanically it is in great shape. runs like a top, and has a nice deep rumble. It's only a 6cyl, but sounds like a friggin V8 in a camaro or corvette with the way the dual exhaust is tuned.
Now the fun lies in where to put my 10" touchscreen! I am probably gonna have to do some serious fabricating to the dash and center console to get it the way I want.
So at the upcoming meets, hopefully you will all see it going from the POS that it currently is, into a pretty sweet little ride.

whats wrong with the Fiero? that car looks nice IMO especially the later models.
They seem to have a cult following too haha and your one of them John.
Man fixing the car is going to be a long process hope you enjoy it. I'm enjoying mine even though its painstakingly slow...

I didn't know you had a Fiero! What year and model? I Wanted to get a GT, but they are really hard to find now. Especially ones that have not already been restored. I am pondering the idea of converting it to a fast back. I am almost certain that I am at least going to put a new front bumper on it, as I like the rounded ones far better than the pointed nose.

I think he just meant his car in general with fixing it up? Anyways, I have never been a fan of that car, but I have seen people do crazy things to it. Someone on the forum did a awesome carpc install in a fiero. What made you go with that car?
PS: the meet location has not been updated.

I had just always been interested in that car for some reason, as well as all of the customizing and such that can be done to it.
I did a search, and could not find a thread with a CarPC Fiero install. The only thing I found was a single din motorized screen, with a laptop hidden in the console. Do you have a link by any chance, or remember where you saw it? I am trying to get some ideas on where to put the screen. The center console does not give a lot of room or options.

Hmm the only place I see is on top of the air vents or if it doesnt have a sun roof you could put it on the ceiling

Start a worklog thread and post a picture of the dash. Im sure we all have ideas on how it can be done. Maybe have it slide up out of the dash?

Where to put the screen.....

I have a 10" sunlight readable screen, and when I held it in place above the A/C vents, it obstructs the drivers view.
I am going to have to do a complete re-design of the center console, as well as the dash. The way things are laid out, makes it hard. My car does not have the optional gauges on top of the console in the below picture, so that gives me some room to work. If I relocate the A/C vents, that will give enough room above the the A/C controls to put the screen, and then extend the console to the height of the optional gauge cluster in the pic and enclose it all in. (The yellow frame in the pic is close to scale for the size and possible location of the screen) I would have liked to moved the A/C vents vertically to either side of the screen, but there is no room on the left where the dash cluster is It would look freaky to have them on top of the screen, as that is just too high....
I am still going in circles trying to come up with the solution before I start ripping everything apart I am open to any and all suggestions here

Yea, I will probably do that, I want to get some ideas and such together before hand.

well you can put both ac vents vertical on the right side of the console that way it'll match with the vents on the driver side in the pic.
Maybe find that dash piece and mold it into the side of console... if its seprate.

I've always liked Fiero's. Wanted to find the very rare blue '88 GT. Only problem I've heard with the Fieros was the 84 4 cyl, the oil liked to catch on fire, but I think that was fixed for 85-88, and the 6cyl had no such problem.
Good luck with the restore, John. Make sure to post pics!
