The Florida Meets Thread

This thread is for all the Florida car computer meets. This thread will have all the information about, directions, maps to the next upcoming and all future Florida Car Computer Meets.

WHERE: Bill Frederick Park and Pool at Turkey Lake, Orlando

ADDRESS: 3401 S Hiawassee Road, Orlando, Florida

Park Website
HERE IS THE LINK TO THE MAP OF THE MEET

Coordinates:
Lat:
Lon:

DATE: October 12, 2008 Sunday

TIME: 12 noon until you leave.

Doesn't matter if your car computer is finished or not. Bring it. You can get ideas on how to make it better plus if you're new to this, or planning to put a computer in your car, truck, etc, come anyway.

If your new to this then you definitely show up and see how other people did theirs.

We are looking for "permanent" locations around Florida. Currently we have officially three parks to meet and are looking for more, especially in the northern part of Florida.

If you want a meet in your area, please do not just post, "hey how about a meet in (insert city)?"

If you want a meet in your area go look "scout" for a place:
-a nice park preferred.
-with some shade.
-accept pets and kids.
-handle 10 to 20+ cars.
Then when you find a location, post a LINK to the parks website.

Scheduled time and months currently for the meets.
February, April, June, August, October.
Usually the last Sunday of the month except October. The October meets will be set earlier in that month. There are no meets during November December because of the holiday season.

Time: either 12noon or 1pm EST. They last until you leave.

What to bring to the meets.
chairs, sunblock, umbrellas (in case of rain or a lot of sun), cooler with ice and drinks, water- especially if you bring pets.
Alcohol is not preferred since you are driving home after the meet.

Bring a camera.

Usually after the meets, we hit a local restaurant for food. Plans are in the works for an actual "cookout" at the meet.

I am interested in coming to the meeting.

Let's get a date and location confirmed so I can plan accordingly. I live in Cocoa Beach, FL. Seems like Orlando and Tampa are good places.

Any thoughts?

I do not see a Barron park anywhere on the map link you posted, just Yeoman park, and a few place marks for McDonalds, the School Board, and some Fur company

The address is also not really an address, and more an intersection. This could result in a lot of people not knowing where to meet for sure

Is this it?

Or maybe this, "Home of the Swamp Cabbage Festival" (Could not find an address for this place)

Barron Park - LaBelle, Florida

Barron Park has always been the center of activity in LaBelle.
The last full weekend in February is our annual Swamp Cabbage Festival and Barron Park is host to a majority of the activities. Tens of thousands throng to savor that sweet delicacy "Swamp Cabbage" a.k.a. Heart of (Sabal) Palm, Florida's state tree.
Many civic organizations hold fundraiser bar-b-ques in the park utilizing the newly renovated pavilion.
Play tennis in the park on our lighted courts. Sit at the river's edge and watch the river traffic. Picnic with your family or lunch under the shade of LaBelle's famous oaks.
All year long, weekends and weekdays, something is going on at Barron Park.

I posted the address, it works on IG, but not google maps weird.

The address posted takes you directly to the park.

Yes its where they have the cabbage festival.

I called the city of labelle to get the correct address to the park.

Sounds like I can finally make this one. I have my system up and running off an inverter for now so maybe someone at the meet can help me hardwire my M4-ATX 250W Intelligent DC-DC PSU to my compaq Evo.

Hey guys I don't know if the location is set yet but I was looking on the map and (not to be rude or anything) it looks like the town of LaBelle is in the middle of nowhere. I mean for someone like me I have to drive almost 4 hours to get there so I would most likely spend the night in the area, but I know there isn't much out there so I am not sure what I would do out there. I know everyone would like the meet closer to home but can I recommend Orlando? I have booked many pavillions at parks and stuff for family/friend gatherings and I know I can find a place. Just give me the word and I will find a park, also it'll give you guys down south a chance to come to orlando hit up some attactions or something. I know there's a place by University of Central Florida called Blanchard Park or something that has plenty of parking and pavillions and even grills if we decide to bar-b-q. If we want to stay closer to I-4 I can arrange that as well.

On another note I know you guys were considering having a cook out, why don't we just have a small cover like $5 to spend toward grilling and drinks? We probably have to get a head count before the day of so someone can get the food but I think it would be fun...

It doesn't matter where the meet is, someone complains about driving. Deal with it.

Not to flame you but obviously you did not completely read the first post.

Its still in the plans to do. We tried the head count thing, that currently don't work cause (good example, last meet only about 6 people said they were coming, had 15 people actually showed up).... tried having people bring stuff like covered dish thing, one meet someone brought a small bag of chips and one jar of salsa for 20 people.....

Sorry heres a link to the park i was talking about lake blanchard park in orlando:
http://www.orangecountyfl.net/dept/c...s.asp?ParkID=8

and this one is across the street in case the one on top fills up:
http://www.orangecountyfl.net/dept/c....asp?ParkID=25

heres a link to another park its really close to the turnpike which helps with travel time and its much bigger than the ones on top:

http://www.cityoforlando.net/fpr/net...ark=336&page=3

if we go to lake blanchard i know of at least 10 nice restaruants within 15 minutes of the park, and if we go to turkey lake then i would recommend international drive which is only 15 min away, where they have all the famous restaruants ...and we can avoid yelling at each other for double dipping into a salsa jar
