2009 St Louis Area Meet: 26 Sept 2009 @ 1200PM
ST LOUIS AREA MEET: Saturday, September 26th, 2009, 12 Noon CARONDELET PARK
Location Details:Carondelet Park - Lake Dr and Holly Hills Rd intersection. Take I-55 South from Downtown to exit 202c: Loughborough Ave
GPS Coordinates: 38.563049,-90.263779 For everyone else Google Map.
I'll be at the intersection of Lake Dr and Holly Hills Rd on my lounger in the shade with my MP3Car T-Shirt draped over the back. This park was chosen to not get too far from the riverfront and in order to have a place right off a major highway (I-55 South exit 202c: Loughborough Ave). I know getting back to Illinois from I-55 is a little hazardous, but its the best I could do: Bathrooms are about 500 yards away; there's plenty of shade; its in a beautiful location; and no park rangers on site.
About the Meet:
For those unfamiliar with the MP3Car meets, everyone welcome, regardless of whether you have a system installed or not. It's a chance to show up and shoot the **** with car pc enthusiasts. A chance to check out one another's installs, bounce ideas off each other, you get the idea. I will be bringing a grill, and everyone generally shows up with random food related items. If you have a taste for something, grilled or otherwise, bring it along, otherwise just show up. I expect us to be there from Noon until dusk, so come when you can and leave when you have to. Meet Map Updated.
If this goes well, I'd love to emulate the Chicago meets with scheduled monthly gatherings. This post will be updated as the thread/year progresses.

So are you suggesting using the shade for taking a bathroom break or gay sex meetings? [/thread crap]

Bump. Please respond if you are contemplating showing up for this. I know it was slow build-up last year and many previous attendee have moved to Texas, but I know there are still a few left in the area. I will also be heading for Chicago the next morning for the Chicago meet if anyone wants to day-trip up there with me.
WHERE IS EVERYBODY?????????

Don't sweat it, I've been alone in the park before. I'll have plenty of work to do to keep me occupied.

Hey Giz, my CarPC is broken and I haven't been around here much lately. I wouldn't mind swinging by and shooting the breeze with you but I have something else going on that day. Next time maybe.

hell if I was still up there you KNOW I'd be there
I've modded my carPC even more from when I was up there. Dash has been re-molded, a total of 6 USB ports up front. Aluminum finish on it all. Dual core (with HT enabled) ATOM board with bluetooth 2.1, wireless N, Auzentech X-plosion w/upgraded op-amps for sound, and a 32GB Patriot SSD with a 60GB data drive. Boot time = ~10 seconds - and that's without hybernation

Wow, you have been busy! I will keep in touch cause I want to hear how the SSD holds up after a year or so. I keep hearing the read/write on SSD is finite not unlimited so I wanna know how long it lasts in a CarPC.

I've had it running in there for about 6 months now and no issues so far. I don't have EWF running on it like I did previously to get a little speed boost. I have the page file on the regular laptop data drive so the writes aren't as much.
It's a Patriot Warp v2 rated at 175mb/s read, 100mb/s write. I don't remember the exact MTB, but it was calculated out to around 4-5 years of constant use...and since I work at home and don't drive a lot...I figured on at least double that
Picked it up at Fry's for $89
I'll have to take some new pics of the setup. It looks quite nice
as promised:
-and yes... I busted the shifter collar

I'm bringing MP3Car SWAG!. Heather sent me a box of T-Shirts, Window sticker, and a Dream Gear "MiniKey".
Heather has also authorized me to give away one license for the $ 10 DashCommand Promotion
Thanx Heather!
Whatever I don't give away at this meet will go to Chicago for the MP3Car meet there. Don't miss out!

I'll save 3 T-shirts and whatever else is left. Unlike the airlines or ferries, my travel plans don't firm up till I'm physically on the aircraft and its off the ground. Will repost on the other side.
