i hope im not offending you or belittleing you. i mean yes...the last meet i think maybe 5 cars showed up. 3 had systems while two didn't. i think the whole point of the meets are so people can exchange ideas and people without systems can see what works and what doesn't. for example, the first meet at the mall, we figured out that my 8" monitor wouldn't fit into a 350z without any cutting. the 350z, of course, had no carputer..but he was planning on putting one in.
back to the main purpose of the thread, i would love more than anything to see a massive east coast mp3car meet. however, as you harped upon before, the hoopy isn't saturated nearly enough. a huge problem for those of us that are in the hoppy, is that we have to contend with school, work, family, etc. things come up last minute all the time. That will be your biggest obstacle to overcome if you want to plan a meet of this magnitude. you have to come up with 1) a place equally convenient for everyone and 2) a date thats not too near so people can get the time off or whatever, and not too far away so that people can't even tell if they have to do something (vacation, job change, etc).
start off with this thread: http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=348703
on page 7 start signing up. maybe people in other areas can make similar lists and when it comes time to plan the big event we can generate one large list with these smaller lists..
I didn't mean to imply that people without systems are useless, not at all, my main point is that a gathering of 4 or 5 cars, with 3 of them equipt, while better than nothing, isn't the type of thing that would take top priority, the li meet was a good case in point, I wanted to come, but it was on a saturday & I had a lot of other work to do, & since it was only a few cars it was a lot easier to just shrug it off, where if it looked like there was going to be 20-30 cars it would have been much more tempting, & easier to push other important things aside for, this is not to say a small meet is bad, & if I can come to the next li meet I will, but you have to realize that the larger the meet, the more someone will go out of there way to attend, I'm not talking about just me, I would think this aplies to the majority of possible attendies
I'm not expecting to see a meet that is on a real large scale, & I wouldn't expect it to be like an iasca event or anything, but something resembling a small car show would be nice, if there were like 20-30 cars or more, there would wind up being over 100 people, & that would be a great meet, what I'm suggesting is that 5 cars in li, 5 cars in nj, 6 cars in pa,& 6 cars in connecticut would be much better combined, as I'm sure the total cars at an event like this would be greater than the few that turn up here & there, & I think we'd all benifit from it, I know that I check the posts & if I saw an event that looked like 20-30 cars were attending I would skip work or ditch the wife & travel a bit for it
as far as the guys who want to sleep there & have vendors & sponsors, while that sounds great that also would take a real lot of effort, & I don't know how large of a turn out could be expected, what vendor is going to want to set up shop for 20-30 cars? you would have to start projecting in the hundreds for something like that I think, & then your talking about real organization being necissary, If someone is really ambishious this could be a bussiness oportunity I suppose, but I ain't even thinking on a scale like that, If some of you are thinking really large scale then go for it, I'd be happy with just a really worthwile meet within a few hours drive at most I suppose...

there are at least 20 cars from the ny area that could have made it out to LI for the last 2 meets. the problem was, as you mention, there are more important things to do. and priorities are priorities. i think what we could do is maybe find a campsite probably in new jersey or even connecticut and spend a weekend there sometime during the beginning of the summer. obviously not everyone would stay the whole weekend, but people could come and go as they please. a place like this...

Im in the NYC area, and would love to attend a meet, there is lot of important things to do in life... just gotta make time for it all. It normally only takes a few hours to meet especially since we all drive, most important everyone must be on time, but who am I to talk(lol).... Im normally late to meets, but never last...
Im down for a meet and willing to drive a decent distance, however my setup wont be decent 'til the end of the month begining of feburary.

We should do something like this come spring, I think it would be a good idea, Its hard for the people that have to make a 1-2 hour commute (or more) to where the meet is if the meet is only going to be a quick hello in the parking lot. I think that the key as both turbocad and fantomas have pointed out is it would make it worthwhile if it has a real event feel. People would want to attend, more people = more ideas = more fun. I like the camping idea, it will be easier to get it "realitively close" for most people attending. If you try to include to big an area, I get the feeling that you will still get the same turnout because the location would be a middle compromise and half the people who would have went will bail because the drive will have become to long.
Its key to make it an event as you both said, and that takes planning...
hmmm, maybe we can brainstorm more ideas and then get a poll going to vote?

I agree with some of the ideas being thrown around here. I think a deposit or something would be good, that was we could have door prizes, or t-shirts or something. If the whole event were sponsored, it would be great.
I like the idea of making it a private event, where only mp3cars would be allowed. Or what if it were by invite only. I know I could come up with maybe 3 other car loads that would be willing to attend, if it turned into a big party.
I think if we had a major place to meet, and a definite date to attend ( like a major car show ) the whole thing would gel a lot easier. The whole thing would gain a level of respect.
I think a state park is an excellent idea. And I know some of them are free to all, as long as you abide by the rules. And I think that if it were multiple days, it wouldn't be so difficult for people to make it. Like someone said earlier: 2 hour commute + 1/2 meet = bad. 2 hour commute + 2 day party = awesome.
