it's probably based on the new style mobile wireless networks that are popping up.

I'm gonna go down today and see if they know how to charge me for a wifi card
Also another interesting note is www.melbournewireless.org.au

I should be able to make this meet (my dad is flying over as we speak).
Unfortunately due to my clumsyness when unscrewing the laptop motherboard my carputer is completely stuffed!
However will be interested to meet all you guys and find out what systems are installed etc.
[edit] Due to my birthday being yesterday, I might be able to dig up some funds to get back on track with the carputer![/edit]

Basically the motherboard is cracked, screwdriver slipped and cut into the Motherboard. Initially I thought it was just a small scractch but it turned out to be much worse, so much worse that when I actually removed the motherboard the piece basically fell off. Ah well hopefully I can get my hands on another pc for the car pc project!

Still bring the board and psu and everything i should be able to fix it.
Just cause the board broke of don't mean you can't fix it you just have to jump the traces from the componets from each side it's simple but depends how big the broken part that fell of is.
Still bring it can't hurt me having a look

Thanks, I'll bring it, but I had another look at it, seems IBM have put wire traces within the pcb, so it is like 3 layers. As you said no harm in bringing it!

I'm probably in. Won't have anything put in the car but I'll call Mick at Unitronix and see if I can get the SBC computer they have for loan-outs and bring it to have a play with it. And Ferntree Gully isn't that far from me; next time it'd be nice to have it way out from the city IMO.

Hope to see u there Cœur d'Arcy
The reason for Boxhill is it's around the same driving time for everyone.
I didn't pick it cause its close to me (i'm in FTG so it takes 30 something mins) it's just everyone is coming from different corners of melb and it's alot easier for the city guys to jump on the freeway and get there quicker than some of us.
I really should start PM everyone i'll get ready to do that tonight

Just confirmed with the boss (my wife), and my 98% of comming has moved to 100%. My car PC has been running now for about 3 months with most bugs ironed out. Now I just need to reposition my reversing camera and clean up my shelf with some carpet or something.....
See ya all there.
Gazza
