No thats standby
Hibernation copys the data on the ram to the HDD then shuts the pc down when you start back up again it loads the ram from the hdd back into ram so it starts up windows exactly with what you had.
saves time and doesn't waste any power.
You my friend are gonna love it cause your boot up and shutdown times will be quicker

wow NiN, thanks for sharing your infinate wisdom, lol, serously tough any ideas on how to get around this? i have been searching but everyone is running XP SP2 i only have SP1 and i dont want to upgrade, it seems to run like a ***** after i install SP2. i think it might have something to do with a program i use called WPA Kill, which just stops you from having to activeat windows coz i format so much and you can only activate so many times..... however it does have one drawback.... everytime i try to log off i get a blue screen of death, but shut dons are fine....any ideas?

well im running XP with no service packs (i tried to install sp2 cause i need usb2 to work but it reboots my pc once the loading window screen starts )
I say get rid of the wpa kill and see if you can hibernate.
It sounds like your XP install has some errors as even if u use WPA kill it shouldn't make it BSOD on log out.
Also WTF is your avatar? looks like your trying to put a RJ12 phone cable into a condom??? serious wtf is it?

of most important things first, my avatar: it is a joke photo i took of my first "firewall"
secondly WPA kill is just a quick run-once program that modifys the windows product activation registry setting and file so you dont have to activate windows, several of my friends are using it and they all get BSOD when they log off, but most of them can hibernate.... strangest thing...
what do you guys do about activating windows? last time i checked you only get 3 or 4 activations.... then is *****es about too many copies are active even if you only ever installed it on one computer

Nin^ ^Nin, My PC has a jumper on the motherboard that you can set to auto-start as soon as 240 Volts is supplied. I haven;t tried it because I like being in control on when the PC fires up. Also with the auto shutdown. My mate wrote me a small program that runs as a service. It uses the serial port to check if two wires are connected. As soon as they are no longer connected (ie you turn the acc off and the relay disengages) then it starts its shutodwn sequence. It's configurable so you can tell it to start shutdown once the acc have been off for whatever time you like. You could set it to 10 minutes. If the acc comes back on within 10 minutes then the counter gets reset. Works a treat. You can also set it to either shutdown, hibernate, standby etc... I can email the source to anyone who wants it...

the reason i don't like that is:
1) when you turn ACC off and it shuts down the psu is still sucking power you would have to have the psu connected directly to the battery if your doing that.
2) what if it cracks it? then your sucking power while it's on
I don't like this cause the psu keeps sucking power from the battery even if the pc isn't on.
edit: im at work so i'll quickly explain it.
the psu would have to be hooked up to the battery to on for 10mins before you come back.
now the problem is what if the pc has an error? it won't shut down? then the pc will be sucking energy and you might of forgot about it.
Also if it does shut down and you don't come back the psu will still suck juice outof the battery and will kill it in half a week if not driven.
thats why I don't like a solution thats pc based i like a standalone device which will also disconnect the psu from the battery cause the way you have it the battery will be drained every night and that will kill the battery in the end.

dual batteries is a marvelous thing to have in a 4be, just hook it up to the second battery which is isolated from the main!
