National Meet in Ruston --any interest ?

I have had so much fun at meets in Nashville and Atlanta that I think it's about time that we have a national meet.

I'm thinking next summer since most of you here are college students, and those of us who have *cough* real jobs *cough* can properly plan our vacation time.

Those of you who want to fly in (ie, scouse monkey) can go to the Monroe, LA airport which is only about a half hour from Ruston. I just checked the rates on expedia and from LAX to Monroe, LA (MLU) it's $398 roundtrip

If you don't know why I think it should be in Ruston, check back here when you figure it out

If there's enough interest, I'll pursue this a little bit more and hammer out those things that come with having an event of this magnitude. I figure we'll have speakers, panel discussions, maybe a keg or two

, and of course a show off your project area.

So, who's interested?

I'll be traveling to Ruston in a couple weeks to scout locations for a meet. Frodo and I will be looking for a hotel with a meeting room or something of that nature. We're gonna get prices and such, and I'm gonna say that by December at the latest we'll have ticket prices worked out. I am also going to have to look at legal stuff too, because I don't want any of your parents suing me if you get drunk and fall off a balcony

It's going to be Ruston, and you guys are gonna love it.
We can plan another city for another year.

Wizard is going to come visit soon and I will be helping him
scout locations, amongst other things.

We will post the details here when we have them. Remember,
this is for NEXT Summer. So there is plenty of time for planning,
but since I live in Ruston, I imagine I will end up being the point
man for most things closer to the date we pick. When it comes
time for me to step up, I will find plenty of things to make us
all happy .... and hopefully cheap, since most of us are broke !

I think we should stick to one place. And since this place has been picked, and people local to the area have picked it, it should be fine. I know that I wouldn't pick my town for a national meet, unless I knew that it would have sufficient hotels, and a conference center of some sort for whatever type of thing that would happen at a national meet of carputer users.

If we keep arguing about the place of a place, we are going to keep doing it until next summer, and then there isn't going to be a meet.

So, Frodo what type of places are we talking about, a conference center? A huge parking lot? A farm field that is regularly used for car shows?

broke is an understatment

Absolutly agree with setting the place, remember, no matter where you have it there are always giong to be people who contend there is a better place. The debate could go on for ever. What matters is that it happens. And I think by having it in Rouston gives the best chance of happening with the best orginizaion.
