Ham is pretty bloody boring. Although, I'd like to get a nice radio for emergency stuff when I'm in the mountains especially. I just use it for APRS.

Next meet I'll bring a tube of pure Silicon. Awesome stuff. Using it to seal windows. Kinda pricey, but has a 50yr life - so it should work wonders on our cars!
Dang... I just realized how rediculous that sounds!
Is it bad enough that we're getting together to talk about computers, now we have to bring silicon into it!

I kinda think the next 2600 meeting would be a good place for us to all get together. It happens Nov 4th at 5 pm.

2600 is a group of computer hackers that meet at the MOA monthly the first friday of the month. It would make a convienent place for us to meet as well, because our groups have somewhat similar interests (what with making computers do stuff they arent designed to do and such)

well yes and no. I used to go to the meetings, but honestly they were a bunch of 16 year olds who liked to use air p0wned a lot.
well sometimes the computer security group from UMN would come, and a few other guys, I dunno. I had my carPC in when I used to go, and they never seemed too interested,
also don't bother trying to get any converation going on the forums, they are basicly dead, or were last time I tried.
but with all that said, we had a fun time talking about computer security, and general shanagins, (hacking is not limited to computers) so I'm in for going, I'll give them another shot.
when we first get there it's like a JR High dance and no one wants to talk to some one they don't know, but then give it 30 minutes or so and we'll all find something to talk about.
but yeah 5pm by the burger king across from the pay phones, it overlooks the second level from a balcony of sorts. (some wireless store is there, and "donates" wireless internet to us :-) )

I dunno if we can get our cars in there, though....
Nice avatar PURDooM. Is that a succulent cucumber or is it a mod on the CPU from Tron?

I follow the phonelosers.org guys quite a bit, and their mascot is the cactus. Heres the background story by the site leader:
Quote:
Cactus?
More than 10 years ago The Cactus was born. It started with a BBSer named Amigados who started pranking people and saying absolutely nothing except for "cactus" at them. He did a few Cactus pranks for RBCP who immediately stole the idea and started doing it himself. Years later the PLA began and Cactus started to get more well-known than it deserved. The Cactus prank turned up in various PLA phone calls and issues of the old zine. The next thing you know, kids start writing "cactus" all over their schools, a clueless newspaper reported that "cactusing someone" was a form of harassment and el_jefe even got the word "cactus" banned in his classroom.
Anyway, my point of telling you all this is so you'll go listen to some cactus calls that I find extremely hilarious. They're located here and were done a few years ago by a guy named Flame0ut. He was bored enough to make 40 cactus calls and put them up on a web site for everyone to enjoy. Some of them are kind of boring, yet some of them are truly great. So go listen to them right now!
"To live the cactus is to live like no man." -Amigados, 1995
So thats just a cool cactus image I found that I snagged from one of the PLA guys
