Thanks to the people that showed up. It was good to meet up with everyone again. If I knew it was Father's day, I would have said let's change the date. Oh well.

You guys will be pleased to know that as I am pulling out my system this morning, I have made a list of changes 2 pages long. That should keep me amused for a while.

I will definately have the system running for the next meet tho.

Samis sent me this info on the legallity of VDU in the car. Quoted from the RTA.

Part 18 Miscellaneous road rules
Division 1 Miscellaneous rules for drivers
Rule 287, Page 9

299 Television receivers and visual display units in motor
vehicles
(1) A driver must not drive a motor vehicle that has a television
receiver or visual display unit in or on the vehicle operating
while the vehicle is moving, or is stationary but not parked, if
any part of the image on the screen:
(a) is visible to the driver from the normal driving position; or
(b) is likely to distract another driver.
Offence provision.
Note Motor vehicle and park are defined in the dictionary, and vehicle is
defined in rule 15.
(2) This rule does not apply to the driver if:
(a) the driver is driving a bus and the visual display unit is, or
displays, a destination sign or other bus sign; or
(b) the visual display unit is, or is part of, a driver’s aid; or
(c) the driver or vehicle is exempt from this rule under
another law of this jurisdiction.
Examples of driver’s aids
1 Closed-circuit television security cameras.
2 Dispatch systems.
3 Navigational or intelligent highway and vehicle system equipment.
4 Rearview screens.
5 Ticket-issuing machines.
6 Vehicle monitoring devices.
Note Bus is defined in the dictionary.

Licensing
The SDK may be used only for development purposes. You may use the Destinator SDK to produce a stand-alone application that will not require any additional license to be purchased. The stand-alone application produced will require a fully licensed version of Destinator which can be purchased from www.destinator1.com or your nearest Destinator retailer. If the developed application is to be embedded in another system, licensing will be required for each deployed unit. For details regarding licensing costs please contact sdk@destinator1.com.

Looks like I found this thread too late for the September meet. Can I monitor this thread for the next one?

My project car-pc is about to go into the Troopie (2000 HZJ78 turbo):
MII12000, 512Mb RAM, 60Gb HDD, Lilliput 7", GPS, reversing video, etc.

There will be a next one. Maybe next time we might meet somewhere and go for a cruise and then stop for a BBQ somewhere. It won't be till next year tho.

Hi guys

I'm still alive, although the carPC has gone from the WRX. As much as it was a great toy/tool, the new kiddie is the biggest time vampire since video games, so I'm back to a regulation deck.

If Meddler doesn't take up his option, I''ll be selling my CarPC and all the associated bits shortly - I'll pop the photo's up on line shortly.

In any event - count me in for the next meet if time permits
