How can I get SD to play my own music?

After several days I still have not figured out how to play any of my own songs, even after I copy them into the "My Music" directory on the E: (User Data) drive (or to the _Indexed subdirectory). Telling SD to reindex does not help. All I get are the 3 default songs. And there is no apparent way to browse for songs within SD (the "Browse HD" option that you'd think would work, does not).

Can someone please help me out with this? I tried calling tech support but the office is closed. Would be nice to have some actual music on this to test it out when it is installed on Thursday. Guess I can just use Winamp instead if it comes to it.

What type of files are they? They will only be be automatically indexed if they are in the StreetDeck import directory, otherwise you need to goto settings | Music and index them.

All of my songs are in FLAC format (*.flac). I have the required WMP codec/plugin installed so that WMP can play them and see their tags.

Which is the SD import directory? I have tried putting files in the "E:\My Music" directory, but when I choose to reindex in SD it doesn't find any. I don't see any directory with "import" in the name on C: or E:.

(BTW, when searching for "import" (or any search phrase) in Windows Explorer, I was getting a Search Companion error dialog with an "Unexpected error. Action could not be completed." message. I had to follow the instructions at http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=816665 to create a new registry key. Just FYI that other users may have the same problem, or you may need to fix it in your default disk image - or maybe it just got busted for me in one of the Windows Updates I applied.)

Actually I have it working now after talking to tech support on the phone. I had to go to the StreetDeck group in the Start Menu and choose Edit Media Paths from Tools. I chose e:\audio for the Music Path, and then I restarted SD and reindexed, and it seems to have found all my music.

(This was without having added the "Content Type=audio" change for .FLAC in the registry (which I just did a minute ago). I'm guessing that now if I put .flac files in the "unindexed" path ("E:\My Music") then SD will find those as well? Though I'm kind of confused about the whole point of that directory. Is it so that you can just dump the music files in there and let SD automatically index them, rather than you having to manually choose Reindex in SD after putting them in your actual music directory?)

It still doesn't really work. When I choose Play All in SD, it just queues the couple of hundred MP3s, and ignores all the FLAC files. To get the FLAC files to queue, I have to use the Browse Hard Drive feature, which freezes SD for about 2 minutes while it scans through my ~2000 FLAC files. Fortunately the queue remains intact, but when I do something that disrupts the queue, it is very annoying to have to go through all that to get the sounds back.

Am I just doing something wrong?
