How to Power an Infill G4 Unit using an ATX PSU

Hi guys,

Can some one please help me on how I can power up an Infill G4 Unit using an ATX PSU. I have connected the Live 12V+ (yellow cable) abd Black Ground cable of the ATX PSU to the live (yellow) cable and ground (black) cable of the G4 unit but no joy in getting the G4 to power up.

I have tested that power is coming through the cables, so do I need to do something with the ACC (red cable) on the G4 unit to make it actually come alive?

Any hints, tips, full blown details will be highly appreciated

Yes - you need to hook it up to +12 V as well.

The unit I've got from my dealer had ACC wire connected (twisted) to ATT wire - for some inexplicable reason this works as well.

The G4 regulates power internally. There should be no need for an ATX PSU.

I presume he's talking about powering G4 at home, for testing purposes.

Errr, dont think the G4 runs off mains...

But an ATX power supply running off mains can provide the 12v needed to power the G4. That's what the original post is getting at.

Exactly. So why did 2k1Toaster say there was no need for the ATX?

Well then this thread is sort of useless as there is an entire FAQ to powering a CarPC on the bench.

I know. I thought he bought a dc-dc and was trying to hook up his g4 to the other psu in the car. It has been done before. Like the people who buy some big 'ol P4 and a M10k and post to see where the socket is.

I have a similar set-up going on.

I actually have the cover off of a desktop PC and have probes attached to the +12V and return from one of the leads.

You have to connect the red 'ACC' line to the yellow power line on the back of the G4. Connect both of those to the yellow line coming out of the computer PS. Black to black--no problems there.

She turns on and runs like a champ. No worries... Now I've just got to get the UI skin working. Works fine on my desktop, but chokes when trying to load on the G4....

Just be a tad careful you're not overloading your psu
