Workaround for software written only for Intel processors?

I don't know if it can be done, or if anyone has run into it before, but when I was trying to install the Motorola USB drivers for my KRZR K1m I got an error message stating that the software was not written or is not supported by my processor. I'll try and grab a screen capture of the error message, but there may not be any point to that. Anyone have any suggestions or should I just give up on that? Come to think of it, I might run into the same issue if I get a bluetooth adapter for me G4...'hmm?

If you get the mp3Car Bluetooth adapter I would rest easy knowing they verified the drivers against the cpu before shipping. As for the work around, that depends on if the drivers are actually hard coded for Intel CPU's (which I find hard to believe), or if the install is just crappy (which is pretty likely). You could try installing the drivers on an intel machine, then grabbing the files and copying them over. Worse case you get a system crash, boot to safe mode and remove the drivers.

That's what I was planning to do (have teh files on a thumb drive already). My guess is it is the installler, not the drivers. I wasn't sure if there was any way of tricking the installer into not noticing the VIA C7 1.5GHz in case I run into this again.

That depends on the install app. Most installs have flags for bypassing setup tests, but they are more than likely not documented. I would try contacting Motorola. The only other way to find out is inspect the installer at runtime to hunt for the code that does the test and bypass it, but that is just way more hassle than it is worth.

Let us know how it goes incase someone else runs into the problem.

Quick question: Are you using the built in phone support on Street Deck to make/take calls through your stereo? I am keenly interested in how well that works. I did not order the BlueTooth because I did not want it to hold up my order, and I am not yet prepared to spend $330 on the Andrea mic. But I have been considering it.

Ok, got out to the car this morning and tried again and noticed the drivers that I used on my laptop were the 64bit version (I'm running Vista Home Premium 64bit). I grabbed the 32bit version and it installed just fine. As far as bt, I'm still using USB. I too didn't want my order held up. For now, at least the USB cable also charges my battery. And, no, I am not doing it through SD yet.

So, I got the dialup networking connection setup, edited my init string but still can't connect on my G4 (able to on my laptop). But that's a whole different issue discussed in another thread. Just good to know that it wasn't the VIA C7, which had never crossed my mind.

Glad you got it working.

I'll be investigating my mobile internet options soon, although the only thing I really want on the road is live traffic... I get that on my BlackBerry right now, but obviously not as nice as the G4 interface...
