Does anybody have G4 on a test bench for a little experiment?

I've got a replacement for my faulty G4 and everything is ok except sometimes GPS just wouldn't work - there's just no data stream coming from it. I think it might be a case of bad contact somewhere in the antenna cable. To verify this I need to check what the G4 GPS would do with antenna unplugged, but checking it on my own G4 would mean taking a half of my car apart...

Could anyone with a G4 rear surface accessible try unplugging the GPS antenna, reboot it and see what happens on the COM1 port: no NMEA at all or NMEA sequences as usual?

Thanks in advance,
Andrei

hi marassa, I have tryed to unplug the gps and I don't have any gps signal, please make more attenction because if you have a shield in the glass of car some signal can't arrive to gps, try to mount your gps antenna out of the car and in a free space.

Thanks mate, I will need to re-check my antenna cable then.

No, this cannot be the case, because most of the time the GPS works perfectly but sometimes it just wouldn't work at all, and I don't mean "no fix", I mean "no NMEA data stream whatsoever".

I have a similar problem with finding satellites--I often get the 'Low GPS Signal' (or something like that). I have found, with great consistency, that if I load the GPS satellite module--the one that shows how many satellites are in view--first, then go back to the 'Navigation' menu, things work again.

Not sure if this will be of any help for you, but it seems to be a consistent fix for me.
