G4 DVD Just stopped working?

Very strange, indeed.

My G4's DVD has basically stopped working. Mechanically, it is fine--takes discs, ejects, etc without problem.

When an Audio CD is inserted, it sees the tracks, but can't play them. Windows Media Player basically states that it is an unknown format (these are production CDs, not burned at home).

When an MP3 CD is inserted, it shows up as a single track on an audio CD. For example, "Track01.cda" is all that can be seen when the CD drive is opened in a Windows Explorer window.

Same thing occurs when a DVD is inserted. It doesn't matter if the DVD has audio data, MP3s, or is a DVD movie. In all cases, it shows up as a CD with a single track that cannot be played.

Nothing at all happens when a CD with software (any program with an installer) is inserted. It shows up as if the volume is blank.

I cannot think of a reason why this started. It was working fine, then just stopped. I'm starting to think it's a hardware problem as I've gone in and played with changing device drivers and still have the same result.

Any thoughts out there before I call the Store for help?

Thanks
Rip

Yeah, that's what it seems like. I'm sending it back for warranty work.
