second screen on G4 just for nav

I have a lexus IS300 with a foldable factory navigation display on top of my dash. The car originally had navigation controls on the console close to the armrest.

Now, I have installed my car computer with a touchscreen in place of the factory nav screen. I kept my headunit but added a car2pc adapter. This way I'd keep at least my peripheral vision on the road when using my computer.

At first, I thought i had achieved my factory look; but i had a usability problem: I constantly have to stretch my arm out to get to the screen to control my computer. And my headunit now is taking up alot of space while doing nothing really except for skip and volume control (cd-text not supported ).

So now I understand why the car was designed like that!

So I'm thinking of getting the G4 for my main control for radio and music and keeping my current monitor as a second display dedicated to navigation (as the original design intention). That's easier said than done; problems for you guys to answer:
1- no second vga on g4. can i use the s-video and touchscreen of my monitor at the same time?
2- how will SD allow?
3- can i open up the G4 and add a second video card (theoretically)? I guess the g4 is using a standard motherboard.
4- will a usb video adapter be powerful enough to display the gps?

if all else fails, i might keep my current car computer just for navigation. there really isn't any need to integrate navigation into the rest of the system except maybe to mute the music while speaking directions.

(this topic could go in more than one place)

StreetDeck will only display videos and visuzlaitions on the secondary screen. There are no touchscreen controls on the secondary screen.

You can't add another video card. A usb video card isn't powerful enough for anything in StreetDeck.

You can use the RCA output and the touchscreen at the same time.

dashboard is on a distinguished road
Dashboard Devices can do it...

Hey Majidaldo,

Check out www.DashboardDevices.com. We are a new company that will have product launch mid 2008 with our ENV systems. These systems are Dual Zone systems with One VGA Dash unit and Two AV (Headrest) units all with USB Touch that will display two independent frontends per Zone. You can see the ENV-XC (Carputer) photo on the site pictured with two soda cans.

Product details are limited as we finalize the feature set. Pricing is not set but will be in the range of the G4.

We will offer two different Dash units. One with No buttons, just the Touchscreen. The other offered shortly after the first release with (shortcut) buttons, that are changeable via the software frontend. This design is pictured on the site (ENV2) with rotary encoder for volume and mute. Both units will offer one USB-A female port for whatever USB on the front of the unit. These are 7" LCD's with NON-motorized fronts, with access to the DVD Combo drives.

Check out the Add-ons items we are linking to the system on the product page. As in Hidden OBDII cable (for permanent install) and Rear View Camera, also Rear View Parking System (with back-up sensors and camera). Details to be added for each of these items after the New Year.

Check us out, email with any questions or requests. The More the requests the better, as the more we get the better chance we might develop it.
