Installation ??s

I noticed that you guys are right around the corner from me (DC/B-mo) area. Can you recommend a local shop that could install the G4. I know it is supposed to be pretty easy, but I'm concerned with the little "extras" like steering wheel controls and rear view camera.

Any car audio shop should be able to install the G4 without issue. However, troubleshooting the software is something they probably won't know how to do.

If you're needing someone to tell you what to buy, how to install it, or how to make it sound good, I charge a consulting fee.

I don't mind fiddling with the software configuration...I'm pretty confident I could handle that.

As for the Steering wheel controls, the ODBII connectivity, and possibly rear view camera, are those straight forward enough to take to a standard shop?

So does MP3car do any installations, or offer any consulting to local customers? I saw some meets that take place in the area...do you folks attend those?

I see you drive a GTI. Nice...I'd be looking into installing in a MK5 GTI.

I use Sound Solutions in Chantilly, so they already have some experience with the G4 (including a rear-view camera, but I don't use ODBII or steering wheel controls).

(From Route 28, take the Winchester exit for Route 50, and immediately(!) get in the left lane for the first intersection, then take the first right and turn right into the parking lot.)

OBD-II is something you simply plug into the OBD-II port of the car then to a USB port on your computer. There's no installation involved there other than the software.

I have an Audi with steering wheel controls, and i purchased the SWIX to do the adaption... but i was unable to get it to work... i even had a professional shop (who had a lot of experience with the PAC SWIX and VAG cars), and they said it could not be done under current availability and options with our cars....

So you can install the unit just fine, but you won't have steering wheel controls. That said, i've had my G4 for about 6 months now and have not missed the steering wheel controls one bit.

ABTsportsline you might be able to use the SWI-CAN with the SWI-X controller to get those steering wheel controls working. It worked for my 2003 Audi A6 install
