Wow, I take back my laughter. Impressive.
As far as the "HU mode" question goes, doesn't it have it's own interface (although very basic) such that you can still listen to radio and CD's without booting into an OS? I think that's what these questions referring to "HU mode" are asking...

From what I understand, the Infill Station runs on windows as well, it still requires you to boot into an OS. Someone with the actual InfillStation correct me if I'm wrong.

The "HU mode" pre OS functions don't make sense. The infill boots from standby quicker then even "HU mode" functions would start. It is optimized to do this and not kill your battery. On a good battery, it will easily go for more then 48 hours on standby without a problem. If you drive your car everyday, the infill will always be up, running, and fully functional at least as quick as if not quicker then a standard stock in car navigation system.

InfillStation is just a windows program. It was made for the korean market. Everything that you can do in InfillStation you can do in StreetDeck and much more (i.e. USA Navigation, bluetooth phone support, Satellite radio).

So what is this that you are talking about the Head Unit first, CarPC second? Can you listen to the radio and CD like how a HU is? Or is everything done VIA the pc?

It's an intention thing.
We intend for the G4 to be used like a head unit, not like a computer in a car.
The purpose behind the unit it to make it an easy to use product for the masses.
It's not going to be marketed to the public as a computer in the car in the normal sense that we think of a computer in the car. When most people hear that, they cringe, and rightly so. It's designed to be used like a hu, but with more features. It's not designed to be like a windows machine in your dash, though, in all reality, that's what it is.
Everything is done just like would normally be done in a carPC, there's no special feature or interface that's G4 specific necessarially.
The intent behind StreetDeck as a front end is to make using a computer in the car easier, safer, and possible on a mass scale, just like a hu. The typical hobbiest CarPC does not make using a computer in the car easier, safer, and possible on a mass scale.
That's what's ment when we say that the intention is to make it function like a HU first and a CarPC second.

OK That clears things up much better! Thanks RED

You're kidding, right? Granted, you've used this unit, and I have not. But, that can't be possible. I'm speaking to your last sentence in your post. When I start my car, the OEM navigation system is up, running, and fully functioning with all functions accessible and ready to go, before I have taken my hand off of the key. You are saying that the G4 will come out of standby in 2 seconds?
And as far as the pre-OS functions not making sense, my pc has the PlayNow Bios which allows playing of CD's, DVD's and radio without booting into the OS, and as far as my wife is concerned, it makes a lot of sense. In fact that's all she uses when she drives my car. But, on the other hand, maybe the logic you're using here is that if you do not want to be bothered with using an OS in your car, then why are you buying a pc for your car?

I think you misread that post... he said:

Those stock navi systems (and even the aftermarket ones like the AVIC-Z1/D3) take about 20-30 seconds before they become functional.

The G4 will come out standby in 2 or 3 seconds. Believe it or not.

Is that with Streetdeck as the shell, or Windows?

Windows, IIRC. If we made SD the shell out of the box, that would throw alot of the non-hobbiest market off, and be more trouble than it's worth, really.

Definitely agree with you there. Well that's impressive. This makes me want to get my hands on this unit even more so than before. Guess I need to get to cutting behind my dash like Zip-Lock had to do, since VW had to go and design their openings for a completely different standard (Euro-Din).

You don't have to hack too much apart. Just the cage that holds the stock radio. You just need to cut the brace across the back. Could probably do it with a pair of scissors.
