Before the install even began, a number of additional parts are required to install a double din head unit into a G35. These parts add about $400.00 to the install cost and would be required for any double DIN head unit, not just the G4. For most installs you will usually need a double DIN kit and a wire harness specific to your car in addition to what is included with the G4. These parts will probably add around $100 to your overall cost and may be optional, but will make for an easier and cleaner install.

G35 Specific Install Instructions
The head unit in the G35 is integrated directly with the AC controls and the face plate. A circuit board containing the seperate AC controls as well as a double DIN dash has to be ordered. The only place I found to get these parts in willow is to order them directly from Japan where double DIN head units are a stock option. I ordered these parts from J's Garage through Yoshi. Just e-mail yosi@j-garage.com and tell him exactly what part numbers you want and he will e-mail back prices and pictures. I ordered 68260-AL712 (Double din dash in Willow color) and 27500-AL502 (AC controller for willow dash ) The parts arrived in about a week.



Since I had the BOSE option in my G35, I also needed an Scosche Nissan/Infiniti amplifier adapter to convert the the speaker level outpus on the G4 to the output level inputs for the BOSE amp. I ordered this from Crutchfield. Nissan/Infiniti Factory Integration Adapter 1994-up Nissan/Infiniti at Crutchfield.com It also had the correct harnesses to connect to the wire harnesses in the car already.


I also needed a nissan diversity antenna to motorola adapter to hook up the radio antenna to the G4. I purchased this at crutchfield Nissan Antenna Adapter Diversity antenna to Motorola female (and male) at Crutchfield.com

Making your wire harness
After you have all your parts together, the next step is to "make" your wire harness. You do this by crimping or soldering the harness that comes with the G4 to the one specific for your car. You can find the car specific harnesses on crutchfield.com. I soldered mine, which is harder and takes longer, but makes for cleaner connections.

To solder two wires together, strip both ends of the wire, then slip your heat shrink tubing over one of the wires, then cross them in the center.


Twist the wires together lengthwise and heat the wire on the bottom and apply solder to the top along the length. Use the wire to melt the solder, not the soldering gun. If you are soldering correctly, the solder should wick throughout the wire towards the heat. After the solder cools, move the heat shrink tubing to cover the joint and use a lighter or a heat gun to shrink it.

Your G4 completed G4 harness should look something like this, notice that there are a few wires that are not connected. These are for the parking brake, reverse light input, remote control, etc. that were not on the stock radio hardness. All of these but the parking brake wire are optional to connect, but may reduce funtionality. To connect them, you need to find the appropriate wire in your car, you may have to run wires the length of the car to tap the proper one. i.e. the parking brake wire can usually be found near your shifter and the reverse light wire connected to your reverse lights. Before connecting any wires, be sure you know the what its function is. DO NOT USE JUST THE WIRE COLOR as they usually match, but not always. You should use a voltmeter to test when the wire is "hot". As of when this forum post was made, there are currently no instructions on how to hook up the brown steering wheel control wire and it is currently not supported, but may be in the future. Unfortunatly, the way to hook it up varies greatly by car and we can not currently provide specific instructions on how to hook it up.

Installing the GPS Antenna
You can install the GPS antenna either inside the car or outside. If installing it inside, you should make sure that there is a "clear" path to the sky without any metal blocking it. The GPS signal will usually go through untinted glass and plastic, but NOT metal. Also when installing it, inside, use the 2"x2" metal backing plate included with the G4 as a reflector for the GPS signal.

I installed mine under the front dashboard as seen in the picture below. My finger is pointing to where the GPS is. It can not been seen as it is under the plastic dash. It is just laying there nudged into place with the metal backing plate under it. The led circuit board seen in the picture is holding the wire tightly and thereby the GPS in place.


After placing your GPS, you should hook it up to the back of the G4 and test the number of satellites you get using the StreetDeck satellite info DigitalMod (http://www.streetdeck.com/update/SatInfo.sdz). You need to have at least 4 satellites for a location fix. NOTE: It make take up to a minute for the GPS to get its first fix after you hook it up for the first time. Also, be sure to test outside of a garage with a clear view of the sky. I had 8 green satellites so I was confident the location was good. Once you have a good signal, you should be able to goto navigation and see where in the world you are.

Testing your speakers with the G4
After you have hooked up the wire harness to the G4 to your car's audio system and connected the radio antenna, you should now make sure the speakers work. First make sure the speakers are set to 4 channel mode, the G4 should ship by default in 4 channel mode, but if it is not, you will not hear audio from your rear speakers.

To do this, close streetdeck and goto windows, double click on the red speaker icon in the windows tray in the lower right hand corner. This will bring up the RealTek speaker configuration dialog. Go to the third Audio I/O tab and change make sure the combo box says "4 CH Speaker" and press the "OK" button.


Once you are sure you are in 4 CH speaker mode, startup streetdeck, goto radio and press the scan button to tune to a station. You should hear audio or at least static out of all four speakers. If you do not, press, the volume button in the upper right hand corner of StreetDeck. Make sure the master, GUI, and playing media volume are all turned up. If you still don't hear audio when clicking on any buttons or radio audio, check your speaker connections on your harness.

Installing the Bluetooth Adapter and Microphone
The StreetDeck bluetooth adapter can be plugged into the included USB extention cable for the G4. The adapter should be hidden someplace in the car where it will have no metal between it and your phone.


The microphone included with the StreetDeck bluetooth kit should be plugged into the back of the G4 in the port labeled "Mic". I simply placed the microphone in between a couple panels in my car and compressed the cable in between them to hold it in place. The closer the microphone is to the user, the better it will work. In StreetDeck, both the "Boost Speaker" and "Boost Microphone" in the bluetooth volume options module should be checked when using this microphone on the G4 as well as unchecking the bluetooth option to keep the mic on when speaker audio is present (Half Duplex Mode).

Installing XM Satellite Radio

XM Satellite radio includes three different pieces of hardware to operate on the G4.

1. A USB sound card with a line input.


2. An MP3Car USB to XM radio input adapter.


3. An XM Direct Unit


The sound card and the USB XM Radio input adapter should be connnected to two different USB ports on the G4. You can use a USB hub if necessary. The antenna should be connected to the XM direct and preferably placed on your car or inside of it where it will have a clear view of the sky without metal or tinted windows obstructing it.

The right and left audio outputs from the XM direct should be connnected to the "Line In" of the USB sound card. The 8-pin circular DIN connector should be connected to the corresponding 8 pin DIN connector on the MP3Car USB XM adapter. An unregulated 12 volt + and ground should then be connected to the XM radio adapter to provide power.

All hardware should now be connected. The drivers for both the USB sound card and the MP3Car XM radio input adapter should be installed in windows on the G4 using the provided directions.

When the sound card is installed in windows, it will usually configure itself as the default sound card, if you wish to use the G4's built in amp that is connected to your car's speakers, the internal sound card should remain as the default sound card. You can verify this by going to the windows Control Panel then choosing the "Sounds and Audio Devices" icon. Click the audio tab and set the Default device for Sound playback and Sound recording both to the proper RealTek audio device.

After everthing is installed, startup StreetDeck, goto Settings | Satellite radio. Press the detect button next to Satellite radio COM port selection combo box and it should find your XM radio. Then choose the sound card you just installed and select the "Line Input" as the source.

Save the settings. Go home and select satellite radio. You should recieve at least 2 channels if your XM radio is properly connected and setup. Choose one of the channels to begin listening. If you do not hear any audio, but the channel shows up in the lower left hand corner as being active, you probably just need to adjust your volume. Choose the volume icon in the upper right hand corner of StreetDeck and make sure both the master and playing media volume are turned up. If you still do not hear audio, check your physical connections, then check your sound card and line input selection in StreetDeck settings.

If you do not recieve any channels in XM radio, it may mean the wrong COM port is selected or you do not have a good signal. Check to make sure the antenna has a clear view of the sky and that the COM port selected in satellite radio settings is NOT COMM 1 which is used for the GPS on the G4.

I purchased this item before i found out about this thread:

I purchased it from a local shop down in miami who said it should worked on my car. Now it does look similar to the one used in this tutorial except it doesnt have the gain controller box. I do have the Bose amp in my car and do want to keep that uption as well. Unless the wiring used in this tutorial was an amp bypass?

Can anyone let me know if i should by the same one as this tutorial or give the one i purchased a try.
