Shipping Options For Canada
hi there...i thought id just post here for some answers or suggestions...
i just ordered a griffin powermate couple days ago..it came in works flawlessly..but my problem lies with Canada customs and UPS...
i payed $24.99 for the griffin powermate..$19.00 for shipping..
and then ups charged me $22 for customs...
this isnt the first time i got nabbed with UPS..anytime i order anything from other ppl either ebay or business related..they love to charge us a insane amount on customs...
ups doesn’t like Canada that much...I’m thinking of upgrading my entire carputer to MUCH better one..but there’s no way i can handle UPS customs charges on an item over 100 bucks..i almost spent the same amount on customs as i did for the griffin powermate..
DONT GET ME WRONG GUYS..I’m not bashing your products or anything affiliated with mp3car.com i love this site..BUT..maybe you can offer Canadian customers a different shipping option..

The customs fees charged by Canada customs is a standard charge. You'll get it whether you ship usps, Ups, Fed ex, or what ever. Canada customs is not the problem (don't get me wrong, I don't like it either).
The problem is the courier companies charging exhorbitant rates for "handling". These are often refered to as "brokerage fees". In other words, UPS charges you extra to have customs look at your package. Something customs has to do anyways. Then they charge you COD fees to collect the brokerage fees that you had no option to pay up front anyways. Then canada customs has to tax you (GST) on those services. And as if that isn't enough, they legally don't have to let you have your package until you've paid thier "rape your @ss" fees!
Thieving b@st@rds.
I've been where you are. Bought a 20 dollar item and paid UPS 30 bucks in fees to get it out of thier greedy claws!
Ship USPS. At least then you only get "dinged" with the standard customs charges. I won't even buy anything out of the states if all they offer is UPS shipping.

thats why to buy this stuff in canada is costs so much more...
think about it if you were a store.
had to buy "it" for $100
and pay $45 to get it to your stock room....you would charge $145 + mark up.
and we in Canada (a market $ the size of california) but 200x bigger in size, wonder why prices are so much higher here....
we gotta get a grip...we are putting our own small businesses out of business trying to get US prices....
what we have to do is get these
shipping (easily $10)
handling (up to $10)
customs (arround $20)
brokerage ($17 to $40)
prices down.
now we see why its so expensive for that LCD TV eh?!?!?!

Hey, a 2004 Intrepid? I just sold my 2000 es to buy my 2004 300m Special! Small world, fellow cannuck.
Check out my worklog (just started):
http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/work...m-special.html
Have you been to dodgeintrepid.net yet? Lots of info there, you just have to look past all the "other stuff" that goes on.
Cheers

Honestly...greatwhite...I love your car...I always wanted the 300m...
What a gorgeous car...interior was so well organized...very spacious car...
I chose the intrepid for three reasons...
first: my family is all Chrysler...my dads got a 99 intrepid…my mom just traded in her 04 Pacifica for a 07 nitro...
second: I bought it in 05 used had 18,000 km on it…the guy had to trade in the car for a minivan...he was expecting twins…it was fully loaded and I picked it up for $8,400 from the dealer…talk about a steal and a half…
third: I’m 6'5...I fit comfortably in my car...perfect shoulder width and I have ample amount of head room...
I have to show u my install though...I unfortunately stripped everything out...and i'm working on it all over again…ill explain and you’ll get the picture...
Heating controls are in my arm rest...i just extended the wires...then I moved the position of the deck down on the front panel...I don’t know if your car had the pocket or the in dash disc changer on the front panel...well my deck is in that position now...
And my screen was mounted into the front panel also...8'4 inch touch screen which takes the place of the original position of the deck and heating controls...
Once I finish then I’m going to put some pictures...
I have to do allot of work now…changing all my rca's to twisted braided ones...I’m getting too much motor whine from my speakers...I’m changing the position of the computer...originally had it in the trunk now its underneath the passenger seat and I mounted it all into a free to air satellite receiver…so that was I shorten my wire lengths and I have it away form my subwoofer...
It will take me till about after Christmas maybe to finish up all the work...ive been reallly busy with work...

Here's a couple pics of my 2000 when it was in progress (never did get the bezel finished):
I stripped it all out and went back to stock when I sold her.
Most of it is going into the 300m now though................
Here's a link to my worklog on the 2000 if you want to see it:

Right, enter your friendly neighbourhood Customs Officer!
There is a way around the brokerage fees that UPS charges. A little known fact is that if you ship with anything other than standard ground... THERE ARE NONE!
You just pay and duty and taxes. UPS doesn't advertise this, as it's a freakin cash cow for them, so why would they. basically, if you want your stuff a little faster, and don't mind paying the difference, get the next fastest UPS shipping method and you should save in the long run.
Or just us USPS, they are also quite good. Just never use standard-ground with UPS and you are fine.

Knew that about UPS and standard ground thing. I've just been burned by them enough to swear off them altogether. hey can go to H*LL!
Customs and duties are what they are, but I'm not paying some bunch of thieves just to deliver my item.
USPS or I don't ship from the states.
Your choice though.............

I once received a free LCD sample via UPS with a declared value of $20. They sent me a bill for $20 for brokerage fees. I didn't pay it and they phoned me asking if it was an electronic sample. They said ok and I thought they dropped it. Fast forward a little ways and they sent me to collections for the $20. I just paid it and laughed at how much time and money it cost them to collect that measly $20 from me. So I too "frown on the brown".
