MDT-X7000 broke, out of nowhere.
I recently purchased and installed the new Xenarc MDT-X7000 from MP3car.com and now it stopped working. So this is what happened... I was done with my trip, so I press the monitor eject button to retract the monitor back in the unit so it wasn't out while my car was parked. The screen folded to the horizontal position then started to retract into the unit when it stopped and the unit powered down. I tried to press the power button to turn it back on, but it wouldn't. I tried removing power from it, I tried pressing the reset button, all with no avail. I've checked my fuses, in my car and on the wiring for the unit, the volume button and the xenarc logo light up when the car is on, but the unit won't turn on. I've tried everything. I'm calling mp3car and xenarc tomorrow to talk to them. Has anyone else had any issues with their MDT-X7000, or ran into anything like this with a similar unit possibly?

The first thing to do is call the store and talk to them. They will be able to help you out.

I hope this is not a common problem with the MDT-X7000s. I'm planning on getting one!

Update
I went straight to Xenarc for resolving my issue. I sent the unit off to the RMA dept. after calling them up getting things straight. Right now I'm waiting for them to send me another unit, but they won't have any until the end of February (2008), originally they told me the end of January, but they had a shipping delay :-( For anyone considering this unit. I didn't get to use with my carputer yet, so I can't comment on how the unit works in PC mode. Otherwise, the manual that comes with it is horribly translated, and it doesn't give you much info. The unit doesn't seem too cheaply manufactured (my bad unit, could have been a fluke). The first thing you'll notice is the unit has a boot-up time. I had the unit stall multiple times if I pressed any buttons waiting for the screen to come out, this unit requires a little patience. The User Interface outside of the PC Mode is ugly, nothing to show off there, but then again this is really only for carputer enthusiasts. Xenarc doesn't seem to have much competition, because I haven't ran into any other single din head unit that has this much functionality. I just wish they would have put a little more work into some of the other areas of the unit. Here I am tho, waiting for another unit, I'll write more when it gets here.

Mine when I first turned it on grey smoke shot out the back. It also stunk like a mechanical burning smell.
I'm waiting for a replacement.

Did you get your power problem sorted out? Or given an explanation?
Mine has now done the same thing. Power is getting to the unit, as if in standby mode, but screen will not open.

No I wasn't able to. I bypassed MP3car and went straight to Xenarc. I told them all the steps I took to fix it, and they said to RMA it. So I did. The sucky part is, I won't get a replacement 'til the end of February ('08) because they are waiting on another shipment of this unit, so I'm without for 2 months.

No I have not received a new unit yet. I called Xenarc last week and talked to them. Apparently they are re-writing the firmware for all of the units and then will ship them out. The guy I talked to said their expecting them in at the end of March (2008) now. He did offer me a refund if I didn't want to wait, but this unit is so convenient for my uses that I'm just gonna wait. But I have a feeling it will get postponed some more. As soon as I get my unit I'll post here.

oh ok .. that kinda sucks.... thanks for the update
it seems as though they didnt put this product through rigorous testing. and they didnt even make the screen transflective!
id like to get this screen. the price is a bit high though.. so ill probly wait a few more months. as it is, i dont have a car in which to build a car pc, ive got an 07 camry ... im not modifying the system in that .... id rather do it on an older car.

I also bought this monitor and had a problem with the touchscreen. I sent it back for RMA and they also told me it would be about 2 months before I got a replacement. I ended up getting a refund from them and just bought a different monitor.
Though the monitor is great, they definitely released it before it was ready, thus the number of problems. I think that once it is around for awhile they will have a solid screen that will be awesome for many users.

As an update, Xenarc sent me an e-mail and said that my unit has been repaired and new firmware loaded. They asked me if I wanted the repaired unit, or wait for a new batch, which could be another couple months. I told them I wanted the repaired one, and they shipped it out yesterday. So it'll be here in a little while, and once it gets here, I'll tell everyone how it is.

Just got my xenarc last thursday and now its locked up with the screen out and will not respond to any buttons or the remote, ignition is off, and now i think ima have to rip the dash out to cut the power... At this point I would say go with a different brand, the half-interface is slow and the buttons are VERY laggy.
p.s. MP3Car.com, your rules waiting thing wins this years award for the most childish script for a forum this year. (I only made this account to post here and plan to never again)
