Intel Boards D201GLY vs D201GLY2 vs D201GLY2A Comparision Chart & Photos

As many of you may know the D201GLY was previously upgraded to the D201GLY2 adding a new south bridge as well as SATA ports. The Fan was also removed on this D201GLY2 revision. Intel has now announced and now shipping a D201GLY2A.

We have called our Intel engineering team and confirmed that the only difference on the two boards (D201GLY2 vs D201GLY2A) is a fan. After taking the photos I can see a change to the cache heat sink, but that was not documented.

As of today, both are in stock on the Mp3car Store.

Just the fan between 2 and 2A? Whats the point of that? i guess just bulletproof cooling for the low power consumption version?

I added a fan that moves air across both of the heat sinks on my D201GLY2. It seemed warmer than I prefer while I installed the OS on the bench.

Me too. You couldn't comfortably put your hand on it. Adding even a tiny fan makes it barely warm.

What heat sink did you use and how did you remove the old one?

I didn't. I went ghetto and used a fan from a dead Via M10000. It fit snugly between the power supply board and the heatsink. It blows sideways across the heatsink. I suppose I should secure it with tape or something but it is in there nicely and I'll decide later if I need to do that.

I reasoned (rationalized?) that if it falls off I'm no worse off than I was without it.

According to our sales rep some undefined chassis had cooling problems on the D201GLY2 inspiring the upgrade to 2A.

I ended up putting a cheap P3 socket 370 heatsink & fan I picked up at my local Fry's for $7. It's not low profile, but it is almost exactly the same dimensions as the original heat sink except I get a fan included in that height. The 50mm ball bearing fan is fairly quiet and it keeps the CPU cooler. The one I got is an Evercool CF-5B-H.

Now I just need to find a similar solution for the other heat sink.

There are some larger capacitors on either side of the processor, so you have to be careful to get a heatsink that will fit.

I have the D201GLY. My only gripe with the board so far is that it takes 10 seconds or longer just to get past the Intel splash screen. Other than that it's been running great about 4 months now. Do the newer versions boot up any faster?

Hello Everyone.
I have a couple D201GLY2's for use in various situations, NAS and also as a CarPC. I figured out how to undervolt the D201GLY2 to 1.1volts vs the 1.35 volts, which makes it run a lot cooler.
I also have done some mods to the heatsink. You can check out my results here:

Hope this helps some people out.
