new version of NAS is here. there are the updates that i mentioned in my last post, but the full list is in the download page which is here for those of you not in the know.

there was another feature that i was able to wedge in at the last moment. that is fullscreen mode. i did not know that Flashplayer was capable of a fullscreen mode, until the other day so i figured i would give it a go. im not sure how it will look on a small screen, maybe not much different who knows. please let me know if something is not centering right or is all around misaligned, to big, to small, etc. im testing on a 15" so i have no clue what it will look like on a 7". So let me know how it works, or doesn't and i will make the changes asap.

cool well have fun with it.

Awesome. I hope that comes together quick for you. I'm in the same boat as you. My wife is still in school so there is not much arbitrary spending going on. My mini is busted and has been for almost six months. This really sucks seeing as I haven't even got a chance to use my app in my car oh well it should get fixed soon I hope. Well let me know how the new version runs

ok for whatever reason i missed a very big bug in the last release that caused mp3s to play twice and subsequently have all kinds of wacky sounds that are completely uncontrollable. so i have released a fix that should take care of that issue. please see the download section to get newest version.

alright for those of you out there still keeping up, there is a new update for the NAS app. this is a pretty significant update to the app. the biggest update is the addition of the ability for the app to associate images that are named after the artist/album to the corresponding artist/album (intuitive i know). either way, this is a big help over having to manually associate the album to the image. this made even easier for those of us using itunes on the mac. there is a very handy applescript out there that does all of this automatically. you can find it here this lets you save the artwork for each album into a separate folder to which NAS can use to display in the coverflow portion. I also did some maintenance and reworking of the code under the hood that helps some with the performance of the app. one last thing that i added is when you click on the album art in the bottom left while a song is playing, it will expand hiding every else except song name and progress. i don't know how useful this is but it might be nice to have the big album art while driving. well once again let me know if you find any bugs, im sure there are a few lurking around.

Hi,
I am running Mac OS 10.4.11 and I've installed Adobe Air (under Utilities) and also downloaded the latest NASAir application. When I unzip the files they were is swf extensions. I used a SWF player to open up the files but nothing turns up. What am I missing here?

when you download the NAS app you should get a .air package. you should only have to double click on that for it to install through adobe air. you cant run the swf files by themselves

ok i think i got the file already. Its NASair1_4.air correct?

Please locate your music folder. Double click to select

/user/username/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music

I did get the files to show up once but after i saved all the album photos there were no playlist showing on the screen.

I then uninstalled the prog and reinstalled it but now, I cant even get the song list to show up to select the album photos.

I've check the iTunes Music Library.xml file and its in the iTunes folder with the song names.

Am I missing some steps here?

ok in your "documents" folder check to make sure you have a "tuneLibraryXML.xml" and a "albumArtXML.xml" you should also have in the documents folder a folder named "NAS Album Art" this is where all of your album artwork is stored. the individual image files should be named in a "album - artist.jpg" format. if you are using the applescript that i suggested it should automatically output the files with that naming convention. you might also clearing all stored data in the app itself. it will be in the same screen where you would select your music folder there is a button to clear all stored memory. this will essentially take you back to a "clean" install, where the app knows absolutely nothing about your music library or album art. this gives you a chance to reselect your music folder or try again with the album artwork. let me know if this does not work for you. sorry about the inconvenience.

It seems that I have to go through the procedure everytime i open up the NASAir application. It always ask me to locate my music folder and double click to select.

I have done that and manually associated the album art to the albums and click on save everytime i did that one by one. Of course, the pictures are not named properly in the NAS AlbumArt folder (which is in the Documents folder with the AlbumArtXML.xml and TuneLibraryXML.xml). So I downloaded the script for the album art and managed to get the pictures named correctly.

The song list will appear but not in coverflow. But when i closed the application and open it again, i have to locate the music folder again.

Also, I have noticed that the 2 xml files were empty when i opened them. Is that a problem? (Sorry, found them. Opened with TextEdit and I saw the files there. But for the album art its all <AlbumArt/><AlbumArt/> and it goes on for about 25 times, perhaps as per my number of albums)

I guess I must have missed out some steps or done something wrong here. I have read through the postings but cant seem to find an answer too. Please advise!

Thank you and have a nice day!

first off sorry for taking so long to get back to you. i know how frustrating it can be when you want to try out a new piece of software and for whatever reason it is not all working out. i think i know what your problem is. it sounds like you have the option of storing equivalent to "cookies" disabled for your flash player. my app uses these to store all the info that it needs to remember where everything is. to changes this just right click on any kind of flash content (web browser content or the app itself) and just make sure that you have the option to store data is turned on and up to a high enough to store the data (256mb) should be enough. try to go in and delete all the xml files that NAS creates and run the app again. it may be just the repeated install uninstall of the app that made all the duplications inside the files. other than that i think there is a problem with the app itself in writing the files out. i have a fix on its way out that i am testing to make sure it fixes it all completely. once again i am sorry for the inconvenience and for the delay in getting back to you. i hope it works out for you.

Ok so i know it has been a while since there was any activity on this app, and for that i am sorry. As a few of you may know (but the vast majority probably do not) i have actually been without a carputer for well over a year now. i must say this has been a tough year. In fact when i started writing NAS my carputer had just broken ( fried the motherboard, then after fixing that busted my monitor during re-installation of carputer ) and so i had never actually seen my app on a 7" screen or in a car or anything. i pretty much guessed at the button sizes as well as the screen size, since i had no real way of knowing what to make them or any way of testing that. So i am sorry if the app does not fit very well on your screen. Well as of Christmas i received a new monitor for my car! So now real development and UI fixes can be started. Having a carputer again has reignited my passion for this project, and has sent me down a path of bug fixes and UI improvements that i never even knew existed or needed. here are a list of things that i have fixed so far and what is planned for the near future:

fixed:
application size
- the app now fits much better on the screen with much bigger buttons and text.
- full screen mode actually adapts to the individual screen adjusting everything inside to fit and still look good.
- added a clock ( something i never thought of but realized is an absolute necessity)
- Icons! finally now there are icons that will show up in the dock and in the file system. no more generic OS icons! ( this is actually a really small thing but i just love not having to see the basic no frills icons that the OS uses )

future plans:
-overall better performance
-overall ease of use and installation
-better more vivid music visualizations
-auto update
-possible user skinnablility

i will release a new stable build in the next couple of days, and more updates will be rolling out soon after
