Just checking on this - if you have iTunes songs, AIR will not play them due to the DRM, correct? That seems to be the behavior I have observed.

Not to throw a spanner, but the name MediaCar is already taken.

did not realize that was taken. its all good however mediaCar wasn't the most incredible name in the world, and to be honest creating a cool name was/is not my top priority. i could take the AMP approach and go with: N.A.S. (nate's audio system, and also my initials) or something like that. i tried to implement air into the name but i just came up with blanks or something already taken( ie aircar, airplay, airia). either way the name to me is not as important as just having a good solid app. what do you guys think? any more suggestions?

this is true. air is based off of flash player 9 which is not capable of playing any kind of DRM. i figure though that since most major online music stores are starting to move more and more towards DRM free music, in the long run not playing DRMed music would not really be that big of a deal anyway.

Well, I just can’t get it to work..
I have all my music stored on a portable drive, and itunes library on c: drive.

First I tried to get the music from the folder where I store my music.
Dbl clicked on the folder, hit the music tab.. Nothing.
Then I move my ituned folder to the portable drive in my music library, and do it once more, finding my music folder, and dbl clicked. Hit music.. still nothing.

Tried to restart the program.. Still no music.
Just get the same bootscreen asking to locate the music folder..
Do it once more. still nothing..
hit the update button.. still nothing..

A bug, or just me fu***** it up?

Tormod

EDIT:
Running XP pro with v2002 SP2, 1gb ram. On a PC not mac

ok guys sorry for all of the confusion. there does seem to be a major bug that we are running into here. neondev is right there has been very little testing on windows. i just ran a test trying to simulate what you were trying by putting music on an external drive, and got the same results.

what i think is happening is that my app outputs an xml file containing all of your music in an artist/album/song format (this is based solely on how you have your directories set up. the app is looking for an artist/album/song format. if you are using itunes to manage your directory then it should set it up that way for you). you can look at this file in your documents folder. it will be named "TuneLibraryXML.xml".
check and make sure that everything is correct inside of the file (ie artist have correct albums listed inside, and albums have correct songs inside of them.) also check to make sure that the song paths are showing up correct within the song nodes.

What i think the problem actually is, is that the app cant find the xml file once it creates it (dumb i know but as far as i can tell that is what is happening). i will make some adjustments tonight as soon as i get home that should fix the issue, as well as add some more intuitive error handling to make this process much easier.

once again i am really sorry. i guess i should have done a little more testing before i put out a release. please let me know if anybody else is having problems, until then i will get to work on resolving these.

It's a beta
So no problem!

I'm very interested in this app and have no problem doing some windows testing

I have all my music stored in an artist/album/song and uses itunes so it should be correct, but I'm going to check it anyways..

Another, yet small bug, is that when mouse hovering over the "coverflow" button I get the mousetip like I can mark or write. This only when I'm over the text.

that last bug i believe is just flash player because im just using standard flex created buttons. i think that something is going awry with the double click functionality for the folder selection. somehow it is not firing off correctly to create the xml file. like i said i will check it out tonight and i dont think that it is a big problem to fix. i will let you all know as soon as i get it up and working

I suggest that instead of using a dbl click create a button..

btw, when dbl click it only shows the folder structure that is in that folder..

about the coverflow button:
it's just that button that react like that, the others are "normal"
