how do you play subdirectories?
I have my music organized by artist, then albums within that directory.
how do I play everything by one artist, and not just one album?

if you start playing a song in a sub directory it will continue onto the next directory in that same folder once the first folder has fully played.
Example
Here is how your music is setup
c:\music\U2\All that you cant leave behind\
c:\music\U2\How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb\
say your playing this directory
c:\music\U2\All that you cant leave behind\
when the last song is played in the All that you cant leave behind directory
then it will start playing the How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb directory
This is how my music is setup and it will move onto the next album in from that band
So to play it all by one artist play the first song in the top directory and you can push next if you don't like that song so if u push next song and its on the last song in that album then it will move to the next album aswell.

works like a champ. Bummer. It means more eye time off the road, rather than being able to queue up a whole directory.
Thanks though, its definitely better than not being able to play through at all.

what do you mean? queue up a whole directoy = playing the whole driectory right? just play the first file and it will cycle through the whole directory... isnt that what ya want?
you can also make a playlist although I dont see an advantage for you in doing that....
or do you mean you would like to REPEAT through a whole driectory? (play that direcotry over and over?)
I'm not sure about the repeat options in NMC but maybe netsuo can make a REPAT aLL and REPEAT 1 setting to allow playing a directory/playlist over and over...

well, the idea is playing of subdirectories, not a directory in general. the idea is for those of us who have multiple directories to get to their mp3's.
check out NIN's post. he used an example of a U2 directory with two subdirectories of two albums.
but what happens when you want to play ALL U2 in one playlist? you either make a playlist (stupid, as royN suggested) or you have to start at the top.
so if I want to play something on the THIRD album, rather than hitting page down through my list four or five times (allowing me to keep my eyes on the road), I have to drop to the bottom of the list, hit next, drop to the bottom of the list, hit next, then find my track.
all the while, the new song starts to play every time. its a nuisance, and a hassle.
but to change the system, netsuo would have to drop the one click system and adopt a doubletap system. I have a prdiction he isnt going to want to do that.
which is really a drag, because every other aspect of his program is completely and by a wide margin superior from all other front ends for the casual user.

so it wouldnt be a repeat1 and repeat all system, it would be more like (to borrow terms used by another program) select, and select+ system. select a directory and hit select. plays all the songs in the directory. hit select+, plays all the playable audio media in every directory in and within the selected directory, including subdirectories, and sub sub sub directories.
edit: again, that would require a doubleclick system, so songs could still be playing while the next song is getting "queued" up, so to speak.

unless you create a U2 playlist (like you would have to in any other frontend) there really is no way of doing it.... not really limited by tap or doubletap... I dont understand why doubletap would make things better.....

well, with a doubletap system you can highlight a directory rather than automatically open it.
THEN you can hit the select or select+ button.
under the singletap system, touching a selection automatically opens it. makes by definition playing ALL songs by U2 without making a playlist impossible!
the doubletap system also allows a user to skip songs, or change orders very very easily. For example, If I am playing track 1 and I want to skip to track 7, I have to hit advance six times, which interrupts track 1 till I get to 7. OR, I can hit track 7. thats fine, but if the track I want is on the next album, I'm SOL. or what happens if I hit a bump on the road and my finger slips? Im playing track 6 or 8 or 9, and I have to adjust accordingly.
the doubleclick method allows for seamless music playing. I simply use singleclick to highlight a selection and hit play. Or, for those who want to navigate using arrow keys alone, can hit down till they reach track six, then hit right (which is PLAY next track rather than select next track.) that eliminates the enter key or doubleclick, or hitting a mapped play button on the screen. there are lots of ways to do it.
and that is the advantage to the doubleclick method. more seamless music playing.

you are mixing things up... go into the filelist module and make a playlist....
directory playing is what we have now and what many people want.... playlist is what RR and others use (with Select/Select+) that is PLAYLIST, not possible to have Directory and Playlist mode together, it just would work...
I also prefer singletap, so I wouldnt ever lobby for that being changed although IIRC there is an option to make tap(highlight) tap(when highlighted open directory)

there is a option in NMC to remove single tap but its not useful for what you want.
Netsuo might be able to add a button which cycles through the sub dirs and creates a playlist to play if you wanted to but i never have a problem swapping albums it does take a while but you dont have to take your eyes off the road.
Im sure you can hit a button and it can skip to the next directory i'll have a look when im at home and see what i can find.
Also NMC is setup for 2 different functions for each button
You can set the GPS button to load up Freedrive when pressed but you can also set it up so if you hold the GPS button down it loads up map monkey and that is handy for people who use Freedrive but also use something else like streets and trip

this is an option in NMC if you look through the NeoCar Manager you will see an option for turning single tap off.
I also think if that doesn't work it might be a setting on the touchscreen as i have had that problem ages ago but it wasn't setup properly i think.

I had a look and thought there was an option to go to the last file in a dir
I was gonna set it to last file in the list then next so at a push of a button u change dir's but i can't do it.
It would be easy for netsuo to add a option to go to the last file in a dir so maybe ask for that feature
