well yeah it is coming. Don't know about it being in 5 tho. I have kinda put key bindings in front of sticky preferences in the priority queue... of course if the actual users of NBB can easily sway me if they complain enough ;-)

Now that I'm running NBB constantly on my mac mini (it goes to sleep when I turn the engine off and resumes NBB on wake), I've noticed that the "hide cursor" option resets whenever the screen saver kicks in, or the mac resumes from sleep.

Only a small point, and you may already have it pencilled in for future releases, but just incase you dont....

actually i was unaware of that... dosn't sound too hard to fix so it'll prolly be fixed in the next release. does this happen when you sleep the computer from NBB too? I assume it has something to do with the application loosing its key status

Hi everyone,

very cool FE the NeonBoomBox, I like the look and feel!

My problem: I don't get any media into it

I am running 10.5.2 on a Mac Mini Intel. Is there maybe an extra control panel for NeonBoomBox where you define your media Library's (iTunes, iPhoto etc.)? I looked in Application Support and even in the application packages itself. The only Settings I could adjust are the color schemes under the settings wheel in NeonBoomBox, but every time I restart NeonBoomBox, even these settings are back to beginning.
I am using the newest Build: s0m34rb1tr4ry# from the NeonBoomBox website. What am I doing wrong?

Best regards,

California_2006

You need to have an itunes library set up, then NBB will automatically use it

w6csmith is correct simply use an itunes library. FYI release 5 will be out shortly (waiting for updated graphics and trying to fix a problem with the center of the dial wheel having a wobble) with many improvements (there may be some slight speed hits due to some debugging code I left in)

release 6 will have improved speed. namely in the color changing department and release 6 will also remember user settings among other things.

if there is anything else you guys want in the next release youd better make them known

Let it stretch to fill the screen for those of us with 8.4" screens :-)

i think i can manage that. can somebody provide a small list of common resolutions for car pcs? obviously I am only aware of 800x480 but would happily support others if only they are brought to my attention

I suppose I could simply resize according to the system resolution, but I am a bit reluctant because I don't want the interface to get squished or anything. I will look into that but I would still appreciate a list at the very least to provide in the settings window...

Thanks for the answer!

Maybe the problem is, that my iTunes Library is on a different partition? Would be a good idea to have a configuration panel in NBB to choose the library's for iTunes and iPhoto.

yeah that is the problem NBB will only look in the default directory for the itunes library, however there is an easy solution that doesn't require moving your library. all you have to do is COPY your "itunes music library.xml" file to the default library directory. in the future i will simply read the location of the library directly from the itunes preferences. also whenever you add/remove songs from your library you will need to recopy the xml until I get around to programming NBB to find it on its own.

shall I take that as a feture request for release 6? ;-)

Yes, that helped! With the XML libray in the iTunes "home folder" it worked! And yes, it is a future release request :-)

And I have another request: NBB also lookes for the iTunes Album Artwork in the iTunes folder. But I wrote my covers with Cover Scout into the MP3 tags, so NBB doesnt finds it.

Looking forward to the next build!!!

actually you are wrong. NBB grabs the album art directly out of the MP3/AAC file. If it isn't working for you either your pictures are not in fact embedded or they are embedded in a way I am unfamiliar with. You would have to send me a sample song so that I can look into it. otherwise there is nothing I can do about it other than suggest you embed your art using itunes as NBB fully (to my knowledge) how to pull the artwork data from mp3s, amazon MP3s also work fine in my testing

I just downloaded the latest release - I like the progress being made! The interface looks 100x better than before although it could still use some improvement to my eyes - I think you're on the right track though.

Album art was not working for me. All of my music showed up with no album artwork (yet 99% of my music has artwork).

Legibility of text on the music interface buttons isn't great (at least with the default red color). Deep red + dark grey is a usability nightmare. (I do have a little bit of a UI/graphics design background )

Great progress!!

I like the fact that its fewer screens to get to the music now.

Although I have to agree with TTeuer the grey/black on the red background at the bottom is quite hard to read, but the white on red with the music selection reads great.

I really like the slight offset scroll wheel as well, as I move the music icon to the "6 o'clock" position, as thats where i'd associate the default application.

Any chance of another bmw logo on the clock image now you've changed the shade of red ;o)

Keep up the good work!
