yeah lol you have never set custom preferences for the order or even what filter are down there. (you did know you could do that right?)

anyhow I had posted a "work around" when i posted that build but it turns out that the workaround didn't work due to the dragging operation requiring an image to start.

I am posting a slightly updated build that addresses this issue as well as others. meet me at the check for updates thread.

Ran into a couple of problems with the new beta. The program crashed when I was messing with the appearance controls. I haven't got the crash log yet, but I will try to do that tomorrow. Also, the bottom slider of the RGB controls (B I think) is almost off the screen on my display. Also, the home buttons get pretty grainy when I manipulated the contrast. Any suggestions on that?

I wouldn't worry about sending me crash logs related to the theming engine. until the whole app and framework are ported to the new engine there will be several known issues. as for the grainy home button that should have been fixed in the build i posted in the update thread like 3 days ago. If I am mistaken and that got fixed after that build then just wait a few days and there will be a new build with a fix.

I see what you mean about the slider being almost off the screen on lower resolutions. I will address that before it goes final. also don't worry about the previous and next buttons as the final build those will be smaller round icons set in the bottom corners.

In the meantime there is another build i just threw out if you are interested in doing some more testing

The Now Playing strip along the top gets a little cut off as well. Making that a few more pixels wider would be friendly to my fingers.

I ran into a bug on your latest version today. The Previous control button stays gray after it is pressed to return to the beginning of a song. It doesn't do that if you go to the previous song, only if you go back to the beginning of the current song. This is consistently repeatable for me. Pressing Pause/Play does not return it to the proper color. Pressing the Next control to go to the next song returns it to the proper color and it changes when the current song ends and the new one begins. I'm attaching a screen shot.

The screen order during animation seems to work OK for me. I haven't had the wrong screen come to the front during my limited use thus far. I haven't had a chance to test rearranging the buttons, yet.

Finally, I'm not real crazy about filling the timeline scrubber behind the scroll thumb. I like the wide scrubber, but I prefer it unfilled. The white doesn't look right with all the rest of the darker colors. That's just me, though.

I like the new stuff you've put in. I really like having the shuffle control in the Now Playing strip. The visualizer system is really nice, and the visual theme adjustments are coming along well. Thanks.

ha ha don't thank me for the visuals thank apple (and chris for the aSTARisk) but thank you anyway I am really pleased with them too. I hope the rumored visualizer in iTunes 8 is a QC visualizer so I can add a link to that as well.

Im a bit confused as to what is getting cut off... I don't see it in your shot. are you talking about the ticker on the browser screen?

I will look into the button problem and should be able to fix it next build

It wouldn't be hard to make it a preference. I prefer it filled myself but I may as well add an option in the theming engine.

I have adjusted the screen shown above for the next build. mostly just nudging things to look better. I did make the slider draw its outline using the font color settable in the main app prefs I don't know if that will make it look better for you or not. Obviously if you are going to use a white font color then it wouldn't help

should have a new build out early next week that will allow actual theme bundles to provide some presets and will stop washing out the controls when somebody opens NBB for the first time . there won't be a way to define presets from inside NBB but you will be able to manually create an XML file and bundle it and install it the same way as modules are installed.

Well, I guess my screen is a little cut off by the frame. I looked at it this morning and even though the screen shot is not cut off, I can't see the top 3 or so pixel rows of the screen. The time display has probably 1 pixel cut off and the shuffle icon has 2 or 3 cut off. It might be a good idea to allow a couple of pixels all the way around the screen to allow for mounting issues such as that.

I had a chance to play with the filters buttons and encountered some problems. The filters re-arranged when dragged, but the target function doesn't move along with it. For instance, Playlists begins at the right of the bar, and drags successfully to the left-most position. However, the Playlists function remains at the right. Pressing Playlist (now at the left) still brings up Artist (which it replaced), and pressing the rightmost position (I forget what filled the slot) brings up Playlist. Also, the re-arranged filter positions are not retained after a quit and re-launch (which is kind of good, since it resets the misbehaving labels).

thats a good idea. I'll move some stuff around for the next build.

I wonder what i did to break the the music filters... I'll fix that for next build too

Edit: wow. the code works as expected the problem with the music filters is that when i was altering the NIB file (the last thing i did before i posted the build) I broke the link from the button tray to the music controller!!! the next build will work as expected (I hope).

on a side note I did get theme presets working! (mostly)

One thing I've noticed is that every once in awhile I'll play a song and no sound will come out of the speakers. The song is playing though because the slider is moving. If I advance the song a bit it plays for a little bit but then goes silent again. To fix it the two times it has happened thus far I just quit and restart NBB and its ok again. Also as noted, at 800x480 most of the settings screens get cut off on the bottom. One suggestion also, on the visualizer screen, when you tap the screen once if you had controls pop up that had the play/pause button, advance track, go back track, and the progress slider so you could control the music without exiting the visualizer.

Thanks

I have to assume the no sound issue is after you wake from sleep?

I am aware of the settings pages getting cut off the next build (tonight) will address that to an extent. The final build should fix it the rest of the way.

The visualizer window was going to have a table for selecting the visualizer, Im not sure if there is room down there for both tho I suppose I could make the area taller. what ever you guys want i suppose

In the mean time you could always use your apple remote to play/pause and change tracks and adjust the volume etc

I would think that you would be able to have the controls along with a drop down to switch the visualizer....i dunno. If not I would personally rather be able to control the music and switch the visualizer via the settings screen. As for the remote, the ir sensor isn't visible so thats a no go. Everything is lookin good though, keep up the good work!

ah no can do my friend. unfortunately you cannot draw cocoa controls on top of a QCView (the list is too long and will overrun over the view); that is the main reason i have the visualizer resize to show the controls. I don't know why you cant do it but i suspect that the qc view is drawing directly to the video card.

at any rate I would rather wait till version 1.2 when i create the global controller that I will then be able to simply attach to the visualizer window just like the global key board can attach to any window (its toggled by the control key for anyone who didn't know and wants an example of how the global controller will work)

Neon,

Using the Radio Module included with the last couple of versions I haven't gotten audio or signal strength indications. Is it working on your end?

Thanks,

Sean
