OOPS! If your Neon Boombox messes up when you close the prefs window in the music player head on over to neonboombox.com and re-download NBB. Sorry for any inconvenience we may have caused

Public Release 5B-

Main Application

Bug Fixes - Addressed an issue where unhiding the mouse may not actually unhide the mouse

Changes - brightened up the color for the buttons just a bit

Music Module

New Features - Added playlist support W00T
- Added a reference to the currently playing track in relation to the total number of queued tracks in the "now playing" screen

Bug Fixes - Visualizer now reports the album track number for the song instead of 0
fixed a bug where embedded jpg Mp3 album art wouldn't display if it was stored as jpeg instead of jpg

Now digging into some big changes/additions in release 6

yeah well get the interface right eventually

just a quick update since I'm really excited about the progress I have made today.

I am pleased to announce that user preferences are fully functional.

this means that come release 6 button color and position - in both the dial and the music browser filters - as well as the dial rotation itself along with just about everything else will finally remember its position.

additionally I am defining quite a number of other things to get their value from the preference file that don't have a place to set their value in NBB itself (the format of the clock for instance) meaning that until I make these editable from within NBB all one has to do is edit the NBB preference file to define a new value!

Public Release 6

its a little premature. there are a number of known issues I am working on (no "show stoppers"). I will patch them in the coming week. Right now I am waiting for yet more graphical tweaks before moving on.

Also key bindings are not quite complete but release 6b should see yet more improvements to them including much more aesthetically pleasing focus rings in the music module.

Please enjoy and tell me what you all think.

================
Note: works best on a resolution between 800x480 and 800x600 anything higher wont scale well for now
================

download

Public Release 6-

Main Application

New Features: obtained a degree of resolution independence tho the interface will likely look quite silly on anything much higher than 800x600 or much lower than 800x480
expanded key bindings to the preference window
added some more key bindings (o is bound to the options button, x is bound to close/back buttons)
key bindings have been extended to the main options (still buggy)
user preferences are now retained after app termination
added a clock formatting preference, however, it can only be changed by editing the preference file manually. I can help with that.

Bug Fixes: clock now updates immediately on app launch.

Changes: updated the nonfunctional modules to have a background (were previously transparent) to prevent confusion if they were accidently opened
dial now works on its coordinate system instead of the base coordinate system to facilitate resolution changes
window classes now draw their backgrounds from the same source image, reducing memory footprint and slightly increasing performance

Known Issues: options window can loose its key bindings

Music Module

New Features: completely rewrote the way NBB finds and displays album art. now has compatibility with ANYTHING that leopards quick look will render (yes this includes album art downloaded by itunes)
added more key bindings.
user preferences are now retained after app termination
added EXPERIMENTAL scroll as you drag for the music browser (as an option in the module prefs)

Bug Fixes: fixed a bug where NBB would look for the itunes XML file in the wrong directory causing NBB to crash

Changes: disabled album artwork in the visualizer. the new artwork engine wasn't compatible. will make a comeback as an optional feature.
mouse will now always hide when visualizer is active regardless of mouse visibility preference
NBB will now automatically find your itunes library for real this time (not just a guess)

Known Issues: graphical issues on the bottom bar throughout the module
key bindings are not yet complete

Excellent work! 2 things noticed:

1) Album artwork still isn't working 100% here. Many songs don't display album artwork. I can send you one if you'd like.

2) Browsing through music is confusing and not very intuitive at some points - particularly when wanting to go back to the main listing of songs after one is already playing.

- The back button is not consistently in the same location. In fact, it's not there at all after you leave the now playing screen. In my mind, I'm still looking for a way to scroll back columns in the two column view to select music. It doesn't make much sense to me to have to go back and select "Artist" or whatever selection you chose. Confusing and inconsistent. Perhaps it's just me.

- The back button isn't very clear and at quick glance it's easy to be confused with it and the "reverse/rewind" button. Having the same basic triangle shape is fine but perhaps on the back button, don't taper the "rectangle" part of the arrow so it's more defined.

actually you are using release 5b! I forgot to update the dl link my bad

1. try the actual release 6 then tell if if artwork doesn't work.

2. can you offer a suggestion please? clicking the back button goes back to the listing

please you need to offer suggestions in order for anything to change.

the back button graphic will be changed in the next update along with many other graphical changes
