1. try the actual release 6 then tell if if artwork doesn't work.

2. can you offer a suggestion please? clicking the back button goes back to the listing

please you need to offer suggestions in order for anything to change.

the back button graphic will be changed in the next update along with many other graphical changes

Redownloaded today - artwork is working perfectly! Great job!

As far as navigating music, perhaps a little back button like the search button that is on the left edge of the navigation buttons? It would browse back in the music navigation kind of like when you have Finder in column view and you have the horizontal scroll bar to go between columns. It seems kind of redundant - but it keeps the interface consistent in my eyes... This is nitpicky here - maybe add it as a customizable feature?

Also suggested is a way to get back to the "Now Playing" screen. I know in Front Row (which is currently my preferred Front End for navigation) creates a "Now Playing" entry in navigation list (IE the list of Artist, Genre, etc.. buttons) when after a song has begun to play - even if its paused and you go back in the list.

Great job though - I love the progress being made!

we will be making some adjustments to those buttons maybe that will make it in. or maybe a really tall skinny button on the left edge that appears when viewing the 2nd and 3rd column

actually our plan for that is to use the yet to be used top bar in the browser screen to stream info about whats playing and clicking that would take you to the now playing screen.

speaking of which here comes 6B.

====================
NOTE that i have disabled the keybinding changes I noted that would be coming due to instability and a recent decision to implement a new "palate" class to arbitrate key presses to the contained buttons/controls since I will be using the exact same functionality in various modules (twice in the music alone)

ALSO NOTE that this has not yet been posted but will be sometime tonight
====================

Public Release 6B-

Main Application

New Features:

Bug Fixes:

Changes: tuned the color changing to be more efficient.
the mouse is now visible by default THIS WILL INVALIDATE THE PREFERENCE so it must be set again to hidden if you desire it
new button graphics for various controls
dial can now be dragged from between the module buttons as well as the usual "dial" surface

Known Issues:

Music Module

New Features:

Bug Fixes: tuned the resolution independence a bit to make NBB more usable on screens bigger than 800x600. still leaves much to be desired
fixed an issue where the space bar wasn't sending the action to the selected table cell
fixed a bug where the browser tables would shift up on resolutions higher than 800x480

Changes:

Known Issues:

Good stuff! Now I can navigate most of the interface with rotary control. However, on the Music screen where you used to be able to pick Artist or Album or Playlist, you can only pick artist. Is that what you meant when you said you disabled some of the key bindings due to instability?

I've got a long trip Monday and I'll be trying out NeonBoombox, CFE with shades, and version two of Amp (Kindling). A great time for comparison!

Have you looked in the music module prefs? there is a magic button in there that will let you configure which buttons are in the browser and in which order they are in.
Seems that users guide needs to be extended to cover the prefs windows

sorry that the default arrangement sucks!

as far as the disabled bindings if you read the users guide thread and compare it to this build you will see what I am talking about. basically the 4 buttons on the bottom of each screen are supposed to act the same way as the dial so that you don't have to hit tab so much to navigate the controls and so that you have a quick way of jumping to those very important controls.

unfortunately NBB was crashing frequently when trying to process the up/down keys so I had to disable the new behavior and reinstate the old.

I rather wish I had gotten it working for your trip so you could tell me what you thought...

I just had a thought...

are you trying to say that all 4 buttons say artist. if so try deleting your preference file...
then get back to me if it didn't re instate the default. i can send you my pref file till i get it figured out

No, it doesn't suck. I just meant that when you are on the music selection screen, hitting tab only jumps to the home button, the first pref, and the settings button. It skips the other three prefs (album, genre, playlist). You can't tab and then select them with space bar.

Sounds like that's what you disabled. It's all good. It will be fine for the trip.

Hey do you have a search feature by letter for those of us with extremely large lists. Plus a way to sort lists by recently added and do you have any way to play videos, tv shows, etc in our libraries.

No.

Use a smartlist in iTunes for recently added songs. NBB will show it in the playlists.

No. Try Amp or FrontRow.

Release 6C

Public Release 6C-

Main Application

New Features: the mouse will now show itself while the command key is held down. Mostly for debugging but maybe others will find it useful.

Bug Fixes:

Changes:

Known Issues: still color changing and scaling issues that have persisted for a while. (I haven't even attempted...)
Nothing new

Music Module

New Features: finished the key bindings as described in the users guide

Bug Fixes:

Changes: some control graphics have been changed.
focus rings now only draw around the button shapes instead of ugly rectangles
more minor adjustments for higher resolutions

Known Issues: The filter tray is somthin of a mess still but I cleaned it up a bit
there are still some residual issues surrounding control focus and resolution that I'm inclined to overlook for the moment

download

give me a week and NBB will have a new video module.

Edit: as for the search by letter NBB has that but only if you have a keyboard. in the future the magnifying glass button will bring up a virtual keyboard for this

Awesome...this is turning out to be pretty sweet. Keep up the good work and I will have more input when the updates come out.

Hey I had a question...Is it possible to map the Apple remote to use with this because I would like the ability if it was possible. I finally got my install done this past weekend and it has been great so far.

Can't wait to see Neon Boombox grow.
