First of all, thanks for your work on NBB, I've been using it full-time in my car since I got my screen installed over the weekend. I would definitely like to see the search function working, since I don't have a rotary controller set up yet and touchscreen scrolling is just too finicky to use while driving. I would certainly appreciate it more than new visualizers.

well i can hardly argue with that. my goal is to get both apple remote integration, on screen keyboard, and support for third party visualizers working this weekend.
I also plan on releasing the new sdk this weekend but I'm not sure when i will have time to write documentation for it...
after that has to come the XM module. which itself prolly won't take more than a weekend; the trick is to find the time...

Will you also incorporate LineIn somehow so when the XM module is active LineIn is also?

screen shots of what? if you are talking about XM there is no GUI to take pictures of. it is all CLI an the moment. if you just mean as a guide we are working on it.
on another note I am finishing up apple remote support tonight and I hope to start the virtual on screen keyboard tomorrow. any preferences on keyboard layout anyone? QWERTY? ABC?

keyboard status
ok so I have successfully completed the virtual keyboard. it works just as if you had a real keyboard attached and will send key events exactly the same.
one annoying this (this goes for real keyboards too) is, that while browsing your library artists and whatnot, if there is no match the computer makes the error beep and I don't know how to suppress it. other than that it works like a champ. I still need to "beautify" it and enlarge the font and some other minor things. I should prolly adjust its position too.
also I have discovered some bugs in the browser filters that will prevent the proper picture from being loaded or assigning the filter a nil action. Bugbyte is the only one who has mentioned anything regarding the browser filters but i suspect it is affecting anyone who is not using the default layout... not sure how far back it goes

update
here is a slightly updated keyboard. still not the final look of the keys. obviously the main thing that needs changing is the font size. I boosted it up so you can change browsing modes while it is up and added a tab key that behaves just like a physical keyboard meaning that it will rotate through the different fields/controls/views. I also added a space/action key again to simulate an actual keyboard.
at the moment this is how it works you have your list of songs and you bring up the keyboard and type a 'T' the list will jump to the first song starting with a 'T' you may then hit 'Space/Action' to play the song or you may click the song so long as it is not covered by the keys obviously. so it is not really a 'search' more of a quick search.
I plan on adding a real search that will be accessible through a button on the keyboard that will search the library for matching title/artist/album and compile the results in a search results pane/bezel/? that will act just like the song list does now. you click the result to play the song/artist/album
since I feel that the 'quick search' will prolly suffice for most people. I won't focus on that till after certain other things have been addressed. I want to get NBB to 1.0 soon so I am making that my priority behind XM.
sooo...
here is where I am at on the roadmap
apple remote support - 90% only thing left to do at the moment is add some hold down events for scrolling lists and such
virtual keyboard - 90% of 1.0 just want to style it better and it should be good to go
3rd party/ additional visualizers - 50% support is almost done, but I am waiting on my friend to complete his visualizer. I will post a guide for making them soon. it would be very easy for somebody to port the visuals from say AMP or iVisualize (where I got the one I ported)
XM - <10% only some basic command testing done so far. shouldn't take too long to get a beta module out tho.
short term roadmap:
1. finish the remote/keyboard/visualizers
2. pump out a bare bones XM beta
3. finish SDK documentation so others can try to fill in some holes
4. expand and fix the volume controller (essential to NBB reaching 1.0 status)
5. its up to you. I can either take up OBD2 or try my hand at bluetooth phone. or GPS.
don't expect me to do any Navigation anytime soon. the most you could ever hope for from me would be a port of a compatible open source navigation or Google maps.
there is also an option for me to finally implement the functions of that top bar that has been blank since day one...
feed back always welcome
