Wiring Diagram

Hi all, just thought I'd post my planned wiring diagram. The m2ATX is in the boot, there is a single piece of 7 core running down the drivers side of the car.

I want to completely attach the 7" screen's 4 wires to the M2-ATX. So that if i remove the whole system from my car to fit in another one I only need to wire in 3 wires for the M2-ATX. The screen will then still be wired in to the m2 ATX in the PC - Nice and simple.

To answer your question, if you mean that you will wire the screen to the M2's 12v pos output, expecting it to work only when the computer is turned on, the answer is yes. Just make sure you calculate the loads on each rail of the M2 to keep from overloading the 12v rail with the screen.

Also, I think -12v is the same thing as ground but you should check this with a multimeter.

You should verify that your screen needs -12v, the m2 does indeed put out -12 volts with respect to ground, but that seems VERY odd that the screen would require -12volts.

My screen needs 4 inputs:

* Earth
* +12
* -12
* Ignition

What I'm asking is: For the 'ignition' can I just use the same +12v feed from the M2 ATX as I use on the +12v input?

Are you saying I won't need to wire in a -12v?

If it uses ignition to know when to turn the screen on, yes you can use the +12v feed from the M2ATX.

I'm not saying you won't need a -12V, I just said it's very odd that a screen would require that, cars do not usually have -12v (with respect to ground), so by that logic there is NO way to hook this screen up without an ATX power supply of some sort.

That's just odd, do you have a datasheet for your screen we can look at? I'm willing to bet it's expecting ground for that instead of -12v. Bad documentation perhaps.

oh you guys are brilliant, it's my mistake, it is two x grounds not a -12v

this is the connector:

is there a difference between the green wire ground and the black wire ground?

Whew! That could have been a bad mistake. plugging the -12V into a ground would provide the screen with 24 volts potential, and probably blow more than just the power supply. Glad you got it sorted out

It's going to be my brother who wires the thing in (5 years experience at an auto electricians!) so he would have put me right. I just wanted to make sure I understood what was going on!

next question - Do i need to add any other Fuse on this system, there is one on the input to the screen - as you can see. Do I need to fuse the input to the M2-ATX?
