Newbie with a starting project
Hellow.
I want to share with you guy an idea for bulding a pc car with the parts that I want, the pc is going to be based on linux probebly moblin, didnt test it yet.
The motherboard isn't the main thing here, all the connection is my start point and I have to understand how to connect so her the part I ask you, please, help me.
Power to the computer:
An DC-to-DC: http://www.mini-box.com/M4-ATX
Screen:
http://www.cartft.com/catalog/il/894 (or someyhing else better that you suggest)
that the main parts.
with other little things for make it more nice.
the first question for this thread is how I get power to the LCD.
so I was searching and thinking...
If I get a molex splitter 1-to-2 and I take the 12v+ and GND , make it a DC make connector and plug it to the screen.
Is it OK??? will it work??? what DC connector match??(2.1mm or 2.5mm)
the screen power is: 11-24V so if I plug the 12 its suppos to work.
http://cgi.ebay.com/2-Molex-4-pin-po...QQcmdZViewItem (molex splitter)
http://cgi.ebay.com/8x-2.5mm-DC-Male...30136001r31029 (DC connector to screen)
Im just to making sure that Im getting the info right for a succesfule project
If I didnt wright enough, tell me I try to give more so you can help me in the best way.
Thank... really!

Easier solution:
Since the monitor has a built-in regulator (it accepts 11-24vDC), just wire the LCD to the car's electrical on an ignition-controlled line.
When the ignition is hot, the LCD will be on, unless you turn the LCD off, of course.
There will be times (such as during engine crank) when the voltage drops below the minimum required for the LCD. IT will power off during those times, but they are short lived.

first of all, thank you.
now I can go forward with the questions...
How do I connect the DC-to-DC to my car?
Do I connect it directly to battery and do I need a fuse, if so what kind of fuse and where to put it?
Is it an easier way for me not cabling the battery directly and find the power on the back of the car panel?

They come with a manual. Read it.
Hell, you can read the manual before you purchase the PSU, so you can know what you're dealing with.

Yes and yes.
ANYTHING that is connected to the battery should be fused as close to the battery as possible. That's standard safety practice.

Not really.

http://store.mp3car.com/ATC_FUSES_p/sup-060.htm
This will do the work? if so, how do I put it between the car battery and the DC-to-DC controller?
(Whats the difference between an ATM fuse and an ATC fuse?)
Another question:
If I want to add a wheel so I could control the volume or scroll up\down the menu,
How do I add it?
Is it OK to use the Fusion Brain for it? (and to add features as I like)
http://store.mp3car.com/product_p/com-089.htm
thank you very much =] !!
Its help me understand what is it possible to me to do on the car and what are my limitations.

Quick google search found this:

You can use a fuse holder: http://store.mp3car.com/ATC_10_gauge..._p/sup-044.htm
Check out the Griffin Powermate for volume control/scrolling: http://store.mp3car.com/Griffin_Powe..._p/com-052.htm
Or search the forums for Volume Control...You'll find a million threads about it. Here's a start: http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/inpu...ob-fabbed.html for hacking up a mouse and using Volumouse
Yes, you can use a FB. I'm not sure if it's possible to use it with linux though. Browse the FB forums for more info on what's possible: http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/fusion-brain/

Just to be sure I understand to what you answered me
Is it possible to connect a volume controller like that:
http://store.mp3car.com/Volume_Contr..._p/com-080.htm
to the FB?
If not, Where do I connect the volume controller?
(I don't really like the Griffin Powermate Volume Knob)
If yes, is there a wheel like the volume but that isn't limited to 1 rotation?
(Using for up\down menu control)
Next Question:
How do I connect the computer to the speakers in the car?
How do I connect to the car radio antenna?
I search for all the information that can help me and I saw that the connector from the car to the radio, there is a connection to the battery:
How do I search for my car connector on the internet?
Is it an option to connect the pc trough this?
How do I connect to the car antenna for this: ?
http://store.mp3car.com/HQCT_1_0_Hig..._p/com-009.htm
So far so good

There was an infinite spin knob in development, I don't know what happened to it. You may want to ask around the FB section. You can also look at these threads for other options:

It will allow you to plug in any standard motorola connection. Then if your car antenna isn't a motorola connection, you would have to buy an adapter.
For me, I googled "Nissan Antenna Adapter" and found this: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-XAfQi31...a-Adapter.html

Google a wiring harness for your car. If it helps, Metra makes a ton of different wiring harnesses.
Look through the FAQ (Look through the FAQ...it will answer a lot of your questions: http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/advfaq.php) and use the Search on the forum. A lot of the questions you ask have been asked many times.

nice summery =] thanks.
now I searched up for a solutions of how to put the screen and the controllers in the car.
but I didnt find a elegant solution that fits me, please help me.
the example car is VW Polo Classic 1997.
Where can I put the screen? I want it over the panel.
Where can I buy the plastic panel? so I could fix it to the screen ( 7" touchscreen)
How do I fix the panel (the plastic)?
If there isn't a way to put it over the panel and this is the last result so the other option is to put the screen on metallic arm that can move and lock.
If so, where can I find a car screen arm that move and lock, need to be small as possible and flexible and convenient for use.
What arm do you recommend me? if theirs one.

It would be great if you can post up some pics of the interior. I have no idea what you're dealing with with the VW Polo.
