Newbie with E46 M3

Hi everybody, I've been looking in on this forum for a few days now and I really fancy giving this in car pc a go. I have a 2001 E46 M3 and would like to do the usual set up of DVD, sat nav, mp3, cd option, maybe diagnostics and radio. I deally I would like not to have a din unit in the boot (trunk) and just be able to control the lot from the touchscreen in the dash. Oh yes I would like a touch screen interface in the dash and move the heater controls down below. My first question is basically where to start. I have read loads about all the gear you need but most of the threads just mention what type they bought. I would like to first start at the basics.

So I need a screen, an interface of somesort to the speakers, an amp, a cpu of some sort, a dvd drive, software for a car pc, a hard drive, an interface to BMW diagnostics (should I want it)?????? How does this sound, am I going along the right lines.

I am in the UK so would ideally like to have UK suppliers. I am however thinking of taking the easier route and getting a pre built unit from the MP3.com website. Are these any good and has anyone in the UK imported one.

Thanks in advance guys

Looks pretty solid so far.
One thing you're missing is a power supply for the PC of some sort. We'll all recommend a DC-DC power supply over an inverter. The reasons are many.

There are plenty of UK people around here that can help you out with suppliers and the like. I know that LinITX is one UK supplier. Also, remember that the mp3car.com store ships to the UK, as well.

There's also a similar hobbyist forum at http://www.digital-car.co.uk
Just don't ignore us here.
