2 Single DIN units in a Double DIN mount

I'm not familiar enough with DIN to know if this is actually possible. What I'm thinking of doing, is getting a retractable single din LCD, and mounting it in ht etop portion of the double DIN mount, with my Kenwood Excelon x589 in the lower half. This way, I could avoid buying an amp, and maybe have an easier time with my audio install.

My original plan was to mount an 8" LCD in the double DIN location, and run the PC to that and an AMP, for audio.

ANy thoughts on what would work better, or if the double DIN idea would even be possible? Thanks!

Two DIN units will fit in a double-DIN opening.
An 8" monitor will not fit without modification to the bezel of the opening. A 7" screen will fit pretty closely. You will likely need to do some finishing to the opening to make it look clean & neat.

I've fit an 8" 4:3 screen but I've had to modify the face of the screen to be able to do this in the VW.

Running two single din units is absolutely possible. There are kits that make this possible if you would like to go that route. One such manufacturer is Metra.

The reason I chose 8" was because in the Rendezvous, the bezel for the radio sits right against the front of the radio, covering about an eighth of an inch all the way around. If I could mount an 8" LCD at the same level as the face of the radio, then the bezel would sit right against it, and look pretty much stock.

I think.

But doing it with a retractable screen and my kenwood saves me having to buy an amp. SO many choices!

When I removed my double DIN Bose stereo from my Maxima I installed a single DIN HU and put in an OEM pocket I got at a junkyard. When I built my CarPC I installed a 7" touchscreen, which fits perfectly and almost looks OEM. I had to mod the back of the dash piece to get it to fit, but from the front it looks great. I imagine an 8" would fit in there too.
