newbie question about regular comp in car

Hey everyone, i'm new to the world of carputers. However, i have been messing with both computers and cars for years.

So, my question is, is there any reason to not use a regular PC (motherboard, processor, ram, etc.) in a car with say an 8" touch screen.

Is there any advantage (besides space needed) to parts made for a car?

Oh, and my carputer will be going in my jeep cherokee with it's main uses being Nav, Movies, and music. But there will be other uses as well.

Thanks!

All your answers are here...but you will have to search a bit.

i've been searching for a while and just remembered to check for FAQ stickies.

You'd think after all the forums i use i'd remember to always check faqs first.

There is definitely a lot of info here...going back years...

I personally have had trouble at times finding things...but I am sure someone has done just about anything at some point here...

ya, i was looking and think i'm gonna start with what i have right now (PIII, 40gb HD, DVD rom drive), and then add some quicker more car friendly items in the future. Ijust need to get a TS monitor and DC-DC power supply first.
