New Member with a Mark IV Jetta
Just wanted to give the forum a shout out and see if there were any other Jetta owners on the site that could provide me some insight into what I should expect or if there are any major things I should watch out for when doing this.
I don't really know what I'm going to do yet. I know pretty much what I want to accomplish though. Here are some of my main goals.
Premium Audio
-The biggest thing I'm going to be looking for is quality audio, I've always been a bit of an audiophile, and I'm hoping a carputer will give me sound quality equal to or better than normal off the shelf head units. That is assuming that is possible. Advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated as this will be the primary focus of this carputer. I'm looking to provide 5+ Volt pre-amp outputs to multiple amps. As well as having an active EQ, time correction, and other sound processing functions. I'm shooting to have a 6.1 surround system.
Navigation
-I get lost alot! So good Navigation software is a must.
Car Integration
-I would like to be able to monitor the basics of the car.
-Speed, Acceleration, Fuel Level, Mileage, Temps, etc.
Internet
-I would like to be able to figure something out involving wireless connectivity, connecting thru a cell phone via bluetooth, and nomal 802.11 wireless
Voice Control
-I'm not sure how good voice recognition software is now. It's sucked pretty bad in the past, so I'm not sure if this is something I'm going to pursue aggressively or not.
Software
-I'm a computer science / electrical engineering major so I'm hoping to do a lot of interesting things with this system. Including writting my own software applications. So I'm hoping to find a carputer software interface that comes with a decent basic package but also can be modified and adapted without much hassle.
Cost
-I'd like to keep the cost of this system under $2000. Excluding audio components.
Well that about covers it. I'd appreciate any advice you have, and stay tuned for plenty more posts as well as progress pictures in the next few months!
Cheers!
