Anuther newbie.......... lookin for advice

Hey all, newbie here been lurking for a little while - getting tired of the message that I need to make a post.

Little background on myself - I've been a mainframe programmer for 20+ years - still love the big iron(not so big anymore), started playing with PC's in the early 80's(dating myself here Apple II's and even a Commodore 64(even did assembler on the C64). Built/modded a number of PC's through the years so when I found this site I knew I had to just do it.......

I'm looking for reactions to the following components I am looking to buy for a new build of a carputer for my 1999 TransAm WS6(notice my SN

ECS AMD690GM-M2 AM2 AMD 690G Micro ATX AMD Motherboard

AMD Sempron LE-1100 Sparta 1.9GHz Socket AM2 Processor Model

LITE-ON Slim Combo Burner IDE Model DS-24CZP OEM

Mushkin 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model 996529

Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3250410AS 250GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive

Still looking for a case

Particularly looking for anybody who has messed with this Motherboard - looks like an awesome piece at an incredible price............

Welcome, Rick. I don't know much about the mobo, but all the other components you listed look fine. My advice is that you begin with more than you think you'll need because, believe me, once you get into this you'll find more and more that you want to do and you don't want to be handcuffed by your hardware.

I have a bias against ECS. I've used ECS motherboards for builds before and had problems with them.
Take that however you want.

Thanks for the replies guys - I ordered the above components late Wednesday(10/10) evening and planned on putting it together soon.

Unfortunately on my way to work on Thursday morning I had an encounter with a deer and a possum in the TA - swerved to avoid the deer and ran over the possum(previous road kill - not mine) causing me to lose control of the car. Old high school who owns the auto body shop I use called me last night and said it looks like it will be totaled...... meeting insurance adjuster this morning at the shop

Now I have to find another TA WS6 to put it(carpc) into - really hate losing the TA, bought it new off the lot and just loved that car.............

Sorry to hear about your bad luck. The good news, though, is that now that you need a new car you can find one that's set up well for a carputer install. When most people look for a new car, their first question is "how big is the engine?" or "what is it's fuel efficiency?" Mine is "where is there room for me to put a screen?"
