screen help and cheap carputer q's

iv been looking at a carputer for quite some time but ive never really had the knowledge to even consider putting one together... So im going to try to get some learning done and maybe build some frankenmonster.

So my first question is Can my Alpine TME-M740BT monitor be used for a carputer? My initial goal was to use it for my RAVDVD1 but i may scrap that hu and or idea. And after reading the faq a few times i got a feeling the answer is no but i thought id ask.

My second question is whats the cheapest setup i can go with? I usually try to get the best of the best the first run so i dont have to upgrade often but theres very few things i need and a just few more i want so im going to try a budget carputer for now.... All i really need is a stereo output, video output, the ability to play music videos and mp3s and a usb port to transfer files to the HDD. I know wifi could do this or dvd but i want to keep it simple and acessable. Now interms of what i want Id like a 5.1 output with some way to get all of those channels to a rca connector for input to the 3sixty.2 processors i have but im thinking stereo would be easier to match the carpueter and headunit levels. Id also like bluetooth and eventually playing computer games would be nice.

So what all should i look at. Id like it to be as basic as possible to i can actually do it and hopefully something cheap so i can afford it (and mess it up while learning)

You can get a display on that screen IF you can output composite video from the PC or convert the VGA signal to composite. image quality will suffer and you won't be able to control the PC w/ the touchscreen.

do you have computer hardware lying around that you can use? If so, that's the cheapest way to go, by far.
Not everyone is that sort of geek, though.

If you are buying a new motherboard/proccy, and you want brand new. Get the Intel D101GLy mobo/celeron proccy combo. It is mini ITX and costs around 70 bucks I think. That also saves you from installing a processor on the motherboard.

If you were going to buy used, check ebay or the FS section on mp3car.

How much space do you have? Do you need a mini-itx case or will a normal case work?

The M2-ATx, I paid 102 to my door from mp3car.

If you have an old computer lying around, you could simply buy an M2 and use your old computer as your carputer and it would be powered on 12v. If you want, you could use an inverter, but.. inverters suck.
