Hi there, Interesting idea.

May consider doing this in my truck instead of a Kenwood DDX8019. Am a bit of an electronics and computer geek so this doesn't seem all that difficult.

Still lurking around thought and researching.

They are indeed better.

My list of wants though probably only justifies a HU.

Tilt and TM Screen
DVD, Video File play back (realize a HU won't give me all this)
Decent FM pickup.

Don't need, Nav, BlueTooth or ScanIIGuage, they are all ready installed.

I always like a challenge though. If I could find a way to have everything installed in a double DIN, with removeable screen, I might consider this method. I'd like the screen to drop down 90deg for DVD's access USB ports and read various memory cards. Would take some major fab work.

I know this is utopia...but hey it's my wish list!

Maybe one of these could save you some fab, but idk when they're available next. Obviously, you'll have fork out some duckets for all of that engineering done for you. Only 6.5 inch display, but it looks nice, does mostly what you want and has had some good reviews. Then all you need is the puter part.
