2nd post in 5 years – 2002 Impala Carputer

I’m usually a troll. I search sites for the info I need and try to understand stuff on my own. I’ve searched MP3car.com and naioa.com (Impala forums) for my options with my 2002 Impala. (pics here) After a week of searching, I’m just about to my wits end.

I’ve toyed with the idea of installing Sirius. They don’t make a unit that interfaces with my radio… only ’03 and up. I don’t want a FM modulator kit either. I thought about buying an in dash DVD player. A decent, cheap unit is $600… and I still have to buy a freakin’ databus module to keep chimes and what have you. For that much, I might as well build another carputer with a 7” touch screen. I used to use a P166 with a DOS MP3 player, tape adapter, and a numeric keypad. A year ago I bought this car without a tape deck so I've been FM radio and CDs only. FM modulators stink.

I can figure out all the stuff I need to get the carputer going… PSU, screen, FM radio, Sirius, wi-fi, etc. What I can’t figure out is this databus trash.

I was gunna just relocate the radio to the trunk with a relocation harness… but then I’d have to install an aftermarket AMP wouldn’t I? I’m happy with the volume the factory HU puts out. I’m almost 40. I don’t want loud music anymore. I also don’t want to deal with aftermarket AMPs and speakers…. Or is this just yet another caveat of getting something cool in my car?

What can I do here? I'd really appreciate some advice. What Dwaine has... is what I want!
