Unless I'm mistaken, YJ's use a speedo gear in the transmission just like the TJ's do. The speedo gear has teeth, and there's different amount of teeth depending on your gearing and tire size.

Unless, you have an aftermarket transmission with an electronic speed sensor... do you?

Try contacting the manufacturer of the speed sensor if that's the case, or try some of the Jeep tech forums -- jeepsunlimited.com and jeepforum.com are my favorite.
