Newbie, don't kill!

Not sure if this is the way to ask a question...but at the risk of being flamed here goes. I am interested in the Intel D201GLY2A Mini-ITX motherboard. It seems to be sold "bare". Where can I buy cables (front panel usb etc), sata and so forth. I searched and my fingers are giving out from typing and so far no good answers.

Thanks for patience and help,
swat45

Directron.com is one source.

You can always do a google product search for the type of cable you want. It'll give you a list of vendors, then see if they sell additional items you need.

My favorites for low cost supplies are monoprice.com, newegg, and PartsExpress.

Thanks for your help. I mentioned in my first post that I had already been searching (via Google and others) My problem is that none of the sources let you know if a particular cable will work with a specific motherboard. I've been through buying stuff that does not work and it gets expensive. I thought that you folks being on a forum for car pc's would have some first hand info. I may be a little sensative but it seems that most are way to quick to scold rather than offer real help.
So I'll leave you to you.

Where do you see "scolding" in the posts from me and DarquePervert? Answers don't always get handed to people on a silver platter --- the only way to learn is to guide people and have them learn themselves, and provide assistance if they go awry.

Besides... no where lets you know if a particular cable works on a particular motherboard because of two reasons: 1) cables are universal, and 2) if every compatible motherboard was listed for cables the list would be hundreds of items long. No point to it. The only time specific motherboards are listed for an item is if it's for just that -- specific motherboards.

What types of cables have you been buying that are incorrect? Everything looks pretty standard on that motherboard:
  • 20pin ATX connector for power supply
  • 4pin secondary power connector (behind parallel port)
  • standard IDE connector
  • 2 SATA connectors
  • USB pin headers (requires USB cable with header on one end -- very common)
  • 3 pin fan header (works with fans that have 3 pin or 2 pin headers - again universal)

If your having a hard time finding those items... then to be honest you may need to ask a friend who has built computers for some assistance.

Feeling nice tonight -- here's a Bonus tip. Look at what comes with any other motherboard, and try to find the same exact cables. For example, newegg.com gives you pictures of what comes in the box with a motherboard.

Yea, if you think those were flamed answers...

Where are you getting this mobo? Most of the connectors are standard, so you go to any computer store, they have the parts...you said front panel USB...front panel off what? A case? Does the case have the usb plug already installed (it usually does for a front panel).

If you buy a new HD in the retail box, it will include the wires needed for its hookup.

You will need to aquire a power supply...for that you need to read in the power supply section.

If you go to the MP3car.com store you will find a bunch of stuff to spend money on.

Remember that questions are garbage in garbage out...if you can't ask an accurate question, we can't give an accurate answer.

The cables you seek are generic parts. They will work with most, if not all motherboards. Because of this, there's no need to list compatibility.
Complying with standards FTW!

Yup. Sure does. I think we've all been there.
It's frustrating, to say the least.

Who is scolding anyone?
You were provided multiple sources for the parts you need. Granted, you were concerned about compatibility with your hardware, which nobody addressed. You also did not address these concerns in your original post. You only requested sources for the parts you require.

Yes, i think you're being highly sensitive, especially considering a number of people are providing you with the information you requested and saying nothing disparaging in any way, excepting perhaps this statement.
