1st timer here......

Hi folks,

I have a BMW E90 (Canadian 323i) and can't stand the factory audio system. I have a very large music collection and a very good home audio system (C-J tubed equipment, big B&W speakers, etc.). I would like to install an minimally obtrusive PC system to play ripped CDs in FLAC &/or WAV formats from internal
and USB connected drives.

I currently have an Alpine V12 four channel plus sub amp that I pulled out of my 2000 323i and can install in this vehicle. I will also replace the stock speakers. Ideally I'd like to be able to continue to use the stock radio for the occasional weather and sports update!

I would like to have the PC professionally installed here in Toronto, and would like recommendations from local readers as to whom they would suggest I use. I notice that MP3Car.com offers complete systems. Is there one that would suit a fussy-eared audiophile, but have basic functions, i.e., simply play music?

I appreciate any and all help you can offer!!

Thanks!

I would just look around the forum and ask a lot of questions.

Hello,

A prebuilt unit may suit your needs but you will more than likely need to use a PCI sound card for the audio quality seek, check the high end audio forum out here http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/high-end-solutions/ for more info.

You should be able to keep your stock radio but may have to relocate it depending on how you plan on mounting your screen. You could also route sound through your head unit but would need to add an Aux in to the HU if one is not present. I'd also recommend using a LOC\Sound processor such as the ones available from Alpine or Rockford Fosgate.

As far as having your PC professionally you may have a little trouble as most Stereo shops don't install CarPC's .

Good luck

You beat me to it...... My car has an AUX input in the storage box between the two front seats. Would I be correct in assuming that I can replace the existing speakers and amp, keep the HU (assuming it has pre-outs) and then route the sound from the PC to the AUX input? That would certainly be the easiest solution!
