Whats up guys, new here, just saying hi

hey guys, been planning a car pc for a while now, cant wait to finally do it. ill let you guys in on my plans.

The car is a 1968 Dodge Dart that im setting up with fuel injection, a modern 5 speed manual trans, and plan to drive daily. Wanna use the car PC to use GPS in and around L.A. (preferably one with a very good traffic view), want to use it to browse through my music, tune the fuel injection (why bother with a laptop), hookup satellite radio (preferably Sirius), mobile internet, and other things that might see some use like DVD playback, maybe bluetooth with the phone, run some emulators, and the backup camera would be cool if i could manage to make my trunk pop open from the inside of the car (id used the keyhole for the cam).

yeah I know my car is old but im doing everything I can to make it modern. In case anyone is interested, it is getting the EFI'd 500" Big Block, a Tremec 5 speed, possibly rack & pinion steering, Viper Disc brakes, HID lights, no old man stuff. heres a photoshop of how it should look when its finished, right now its back from paint but I have to do everything else. hopefully i could get some good advice here

Hey Cankles,

Hey, check your Dart out! I always talk to the guys here in Philly and tell them that in L.A. there are classic rides being driven as everyday get-around cars.

That's "no old man stuff" for sure. There's nothing that says anyone has to restore a car to stock condition (especially in L.A.) Best of luck on that dream.

It's recommended that a new person really take some time to read over these posts, the FAQ's, and taks a view of pictures of other's builds...to learn and get a better idea how a carpc install can be done. Then, do it your own way.

The beauty of older American cars is their size; lots of room to install carpc, speakers, amps and such. Plus, wiring runs are often easier. You just will at some point need to decide where you will mount the carpc and monitor. You could do an in-dash monitor install, I just don't know where. It is generally not recommended to put carpc under any seat, as it can be a dirty, dusty, poorly-ventillated, difficult-to-access spot.

I originally wanted a carpc to rip my cd's into a hgh bit rate ("lossless") for lots of music availabilty, great sound, and flexibility of sound control. I have a front end called Street Deck that has GPS in it, but works very poorly trying to use GPS while driving and listening to music. I plan to get stand-alone GPS program if I can't get S.D. to work...

I also have bluetooth and high-speed wireless internet access in car that can be very useful when out and about for doing research, finding things, restaurants, stores....etc, etc...

Best of luck and blessings.
