Carputer project for bimmer 06 550.
Hey guys,
I am new to this carputer hobby and I have been reading a lot about carputers in the past week and me and my friend decided to move on and design a project for his BMW 550 06 . I would like to know about any ideas where to place a 7' lcd either in his dash or in somewhere accessible that we could reach the touch screen. We are looking to hide the pc either in the glove compartment or in the trunk and have a cd/dvd next to the arm rest to make it accessible.
If someone has a bimmer and already did this part , please share some info. We are thinking about cutting a hole in the dash and send to some fiber glass shop to finish the details. Or make some type of support that will hold the screen and fold back.
Find below what are the options we want the pc to have.
• Bluetooth
• GPS
• TV out
• Wi-fi
• OBD-II
I guess the rest is basic.
The case I was looking into is either the VoomPC-2 or the M.C.S. (mobile computer store ,it comes with Bluetooth on it!!!) – Has anybody used one of those 2 cases ?
The system board I was looking into was the VIA EPIA MII which has a PCMCIA and a TV-OUT. Power supply would be a M1 or M2 ATX,. Any input here would be appreciated.
Memory.1 Gb
HD 120g 2,5
GPS receiver
TFT 7’ – Liliput. or other
Front end will be road runner.
I will be just curious about delay booting up this pc . I am looking to install a tinyxp and see how long it takes.
I guess that will be it . If I am missing anything , please let me know.
Of course we are in a budget to do this , I will dig around the net to find the best price . Here at the mp3 store , I saw some good stuff ,so I am considering it. Before putting the pieces in the car , we want to do some bench testing so GOD help us out !
Any input here , would be appreciated.
I wish I could do the same for my car but FX35 does not have any room to do this. IF I replace my 7’ inch screen , I will lose all the info about the car , unless obdII gets the info for it.
