Custom Double Din Case

So here is my idea. The dimensions behind my dash ,base approximation only, I have 5.5"x4.5"x7" and that is DepthxHeightxWidth. So i figure there is no way i can do this in a nice 2D fashion so i took it to 3D

This is what i'm going to try and fabricate

I'm going to take some right angled corners to secure the board but that shouldn't be too bad. I figure the most likely scenario is that most of the cabling will be going down out of that compartment. So i think this might be possible. Any thoughts?

Ok i completely scrapped the idea of putting it in my dash it just doesn't seem worth wild. If you put everything in the dash you can be robbed quite easily and then everything you fabricated is gone And you have less ventalation.

Anyway moving on. So i'm mounthing the carputer in the trunk and trying to get Nexson to fab a dashboard for me.

If someone can possibly show me how to wire up a powered USB hub. I know i can use 5V from the power supply and i'm thinking that all you do is cut off the tip of the power cord and splice those wires with the 5V and GND from the PS. Is this correct?

glad to see you got it working.

about the usb hub, is there an advantage to running an externally powered unit? seems like there are plenty of units that don't require an adapter and they're fairly cheap.

One of the pins on a USB cable is 5V, so you can rig up a USB cable with 5V and GND connected to the pwr source and the other two wires carrying data back to the PC's USB plug. Or, if the hub has a wall adapter, see if it takes 5 or 12 V and wire pwr and gnd directly into the adapter and use normal USB cable connected to the PC.

The USB hubs that aren't powered don't allow you to get the necessary range. The powered USBs buffer the signal, so its like its right at your motherboard all over again. I believe USB is rated to 15ft but i doubt u'll get the necessary amperage at that length.

This will work only if the USB only needs 500mA of current. If its stupid high like the cd drives it may need like 2A and usb ports just to provide that much amperage. Its actually really easy to power a usb hub off the power supply just took a little big of digging to get all the information. I can just get a little circular jack and wire it up with a power wire from the power supply and a get a ground wire and i'm good to go. I thought it was going to be a little more difficult but oh well

I'm also thinking about just making a regular box that has numerious outputs from the unregulated 12V battery. Those regulator chips are like 1.50

I bought a powered USB hub. I got the AC wall plug, cut the wires and spliced into the PSU's 5v rail. Easy peasy and works great!

Off the hub, I run my OBD, bluetooth, touchscreen kit and charge/sync my phone.

Although I thought maybe I am putting too much strain on the 5v rail of the PSU? VIA's run off the 5v rail, as do hard drives......lol

i'm a little worried about that as well. Once i get my case i'm gonna see if the power supply can handle it. i hope so.....

Com Port Plugin

For all of you guys who are centrafuse fans like i am now I created a Com port plugin for centrafuse that will allow you to send a command through the com port and centrafuse will interpret it and execute certain command.

The command list i designed was for utilizing steering wheel controls as well as setting up the voice control like AvWuff's project which i just thought was amazing. Thanks AvWuff for the help.

Command List
SN - Next Song
SP - Previous Song
VU - Volume Up (Without a dialog box)
VD - Volume Down (without a dialog box)
VC - Toggle Voice Command

If you want me to add more commands let me know. I can do it but it just didn't seem like many people would need more than just those.

Although it appears no one is tuned in for these updates i'll keeping giving them

I just got a 32GB SSD drive from newegg for 100 bucks so i'll be using that instead of my flash card + adapter setup. It is a Patriot PE32GS25SSDR 2.5" 32GB SATA II Internal Solid state disk (SSD). You can look up the specs if u want but the read time is like 170MB/s and write is like 100MB/s or something like that.... Get it before the 30th and it will be 100 otherwise it will be 150

Well ok i'll keep posting

I'm thinking about getting the Carft CFT700 SH instead of the LinITX transflective. I know i've heard that the Carft screen is just a rebranded LinITX screen but the LinITX doesn't come with a remote and doesn't have a light sensor although it looks like it does. Their description doesn't say it does...

Any thoughts anyone??
